Default Nervous but not scared: Need prayers for postive outcome of medical test

I've shared so much here I feel like y'all are more like family than my own over the last 9 years.

This morning I had a missed call. I usually keep my cell phone off when I'm at home because most people will call my landline first. When I saw the number, I didn't think much of it but listened to the voicemail.

My heart fluttered because I know they only call you back when something isn't as right as they'd like. It was the Breast Cancer Center. I needed to come back in for a diagnostic mammography as the screening mammography I had a few days before showed ~~something~~. I took a deep breath and listened. She said she was trying to find a way to get me schedule asap and placed me on hold. The earliest appointments were two weeks away but she put me on hold again...they could fit me in tomorrow. I scheduled it and realized I'd be going in after working all night.

Who can focus an entire work shift...yet again, no worries. I got called off because our patient census is down.

So here I am...twiddling my fingers, or should I say tapping this keyboard because I'm a ball of tears and nerves.

During these times, I'd call my parents. That's no longer an option and I don't feel close enough to any family to call today, not until I complete the testing tomorrow.

So I turn to y'all. For those of you who are believers in prayer, I request your sincerest in this moment.

Well, it could be 'something' or it could be nothing and only time will tell. Spend that time gently, and GOOD LUCK!

I'm glad they worked to get you in sooner than later so you don't have to sit with this feeling any longer than necessary.

I, too, think of y'all like family. I'll be praying for positive news and I'm so glad you came here to share.

Hey choclgs, sending much positive energy to you that this is one of those false readings that happens sometimes. It happened to me several years ago and it turned out to be nothing....nothing but a fright for me, and stressful, so I understand how you're feeling

Default All is well

Thanks each of you for your well wishes

After 3 hours of testing, it turned out to be cysts. That's common for women in my family but after having 5 other relatives survive breast cancer during the last 25 years, I felt very overwhelmed about my prognosis.

I didn't sleep well that night so imagine all the rest my body needed after my shift ended Saturday morning.

Please ladies, have your mammograms done. I have the most expensive health care coverage my employer offers, and I had to pay out of pocket for the additional costs but I'm grateful I could afford it! And despite the hoopla over Affordable Healthcare/Universal Healthcare...I wish our governing bodies and their hard nose supporters would understand the importance of the need for this coverage. From experience, my father could have benefited so much more if it was approved years ago. But I don't want to go on that tangent

Once more thank you all!

So glad to hear everything is well!

Here in Finland when you turn 50 you'll get an invite from the public healthcare system for mammography, and after that it's once a year & it's free. Just had my first ever this past spring

Cysts, eh? Not as bad as you feared, for sure! Good on you for following up...

So glad to hear it was cysts - sure beats the alternative. I'm not at all sure what is done for cysts Anything? I do know that I was told by a nurse in Mammography that caffeine will cause "knots" in breast tissue, especially as you age. choclgs, were you advised to cut down / quit caffeinated products?

Mammograms are a confusing topic for me. My mom and sister-in-law are breast cancer survivors. So I understand the purpose. On the other hand, I know of some who when they had the mamo, it caused the malignancy to burst and spread. What at one time was controllable became a terrible situation. So, I find myself nervous about them.

So glad it was cysts and not something else. I neglected myself for years, even though my sister had breast cancer. Finally a couple of years ago, I went and had one done. Been going every year now.

Bite your tongue!! lol

Truly good news, choc!!! I had a baseline in my 20's and I just turned 40 so it's time for me to start doing them. My female relatives all had full hysterectomies when they were quite young but their aunt before had cervical cancer. I know there's a blood test that's supposed to predict the potential for female/breast cancers. Has anyone had it done? Was it covered by insurance? I'm floating in the dark when they ask about family history. :/
