I LOVE my Merrells... they're a good looking VERY comfy shoe... I work in a warehouse store and spend my days on my feet on concrete floors. These shoes are cushiony but still supportive and breathe well enough that my feet don't sweat or chafe.
You can find them in shops that cater to walkers/hikers... got mine in a sporting goods store.

I work in retail and wear non slip shoes supplied by my employer. Not everyone wears them - but if you are moving, lifting and carrying heavy stuff - you do. Me and my colleagues find them the most uncomfortable things ever. One of them did ask could they wear their own non slip shoes. The HR dept and head office said no. Some of us think the uncomfortableness is causing problems in our legs and backs. I have a painful shin - the bone and had it X-rayed today. Find it difficult and painful to be on feet all day.

What also may contribute to the ailments is our floor is hard tiles. The other shops in the area are (i know its not this) lino style which is kinder to the feet , legs and back. The shop is almost 40 years old. If it does need changing, the shop will have to close for a few days. I doubt it will happen as the shop is under going a mini refit and kept open.

Is there anything we can do?

I was just talking about the shoes i just bought for myself.
Dansko company. (they are expensive)
I also bought insoles.

My work used to supply us with an allowance for shoes. Often they were not comfortable for me.
I may have been getting the wrong size all along! (or my feet grew)Everyone has a foot larger than the other and that was the issue. Right between two sizes. I suggest you get fitted and if the place has one, use the thing to see where your weight is distributed.

In my work shoes I used a insert as well. Made by Superfeet.

I went back to work recently (in retail) and I have severe feet issues with pain. I ended up buying the Brahma boot/shoe at Walmart. I got ones that look like tennis shoes, only with a thicker sole. Between those and other things I've used for my specific feet issues my pain has severely diminished. They weren't overly expensive so worth a try. I'm pretty sure they had straight black too.
