ATTICA – Attica Correctional Facility has been on lockdown since Sunday following a series of fights among prison inmates, according to a statement released Tuesday by the state corrections officer union.
The first incident occurred at 2:20 p.m. Saturday when two inmates fought in a prison yard using weapons that were not identified. The next day at 3 p.m., another fight involving weapons broke out among eight men in that same prison yard. Minutes later at 3:06 p.m., another fight broke out in another yard involving 12 inmates. Gas canisters were used to stop the fighting. Then at 3:10 p.m., two other fights broke out in a third yard, one between two men and the other a five-on-one person fight involving weapons. One of the fights left an inmate with stab wounds.
