Default Promote family unity

My common law husband has been @SBCC nearly 4 years. The changes are few, the visits become more difficult and yet, life moves on . . . Most difficult is the social stigma and isolation endured by family members/ friends, not to mention capricious visiting rules and regulations . . . Could the DOC do something positive to encourage and promote family unity as well as provide age appropriate activities for minor children visiting incarcerated fathers ?

Sue~ Welcome to PTO So glad that you have come across this site.
I agree with you that the DOC should do something to encorage unity, but its very unfortuante that they don't. Maybe one day we will see some changes, but I don't know about that. I know in other states, (and maybe lower MDOC levels) they have family activites... but not here in Mass.

Welcome Again to PTO, please feel free to post away and if I can be of any help... do not hesitate to shoot me a PM.

Heather

My name's Jennifer and a close loved one was just sent to MCI Concord yesterday. I know next to nothing about the jail...but they said something about 2 weeks of testing which I was very confused about. It'll be awhile before he gets any visitation. He was in Worcester House of Corrections for close to a year before being sentenced..no one knows what to expect or how to handle all of this at once.

Hi Kaila...if you look in the threads at the top of this page thers one with info about each prison...Tests will be done in order for the powers that be to figure out where (which prison and which level)your loved one will do his time. I thnk you can write but you wont be able to visit until he/she is settled into his new abode. Lots of peoples friends and loved ones started out at MCI Concord and can give you more info. and answer any questions you may have. Check back soon, coz its early in the day....

Welcome kaila and sue!
As far as concord goes.. for visits..there really should not be any "waiting period">> once he is there you should be able to visit.. unless there is some sort of seg/med issue.. and he needs "special visits">(non contact) which would be unfortunate for you and his family but hopefully that is not his case.. head s up on concord arrive 1/2 hour early for visit.. and dress to their rules you will be turned away.. again there is a thread describing each prison and their rules./ regs.. etc

Sue... YES.. there should be changes in our system.. nothing changes if nothing changes!! HANG in there and keep posting.. welcome again..

I read through the Concord information..people weren't kidding when they said that the dress code was really strict. We're just waiting to hear from his mother that we can all visit. So there is contact visits there unless there's a medical problem?

Not the op, but interested in more information on occc, as my son is being transferred there. Can anybody familiar with occc share some info such as what the general atmosphere there is like compared to level 4, like gardner or norfolk; are the programs accessible or just overcrowded with new inmates not having any chance of getting in to any; what are the visits like; is is considered any more dangerous than any other prison in the state?
