Default Private company awarded contract from BOP for medical claims

Columbia company wins contract with Federal Bureau of Prisons

Columbia-based PGBA has been awarded a $7.3 million contract to process medical claims for federal prison inmates treated by hospitals and medical professions outside the prisons system.

The contract, which is for two years with three one-year renewal options, will cover claims submitted for care in the continental United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

The Bureau of Prisons had been processing its own claims.

The office for the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina subsidiary will be in Surfside Beach, and the contract will allow the company to hire 27 people, the company said.
