Been trying to get into the chat & it says invalid username.

I've been here since Jan and made A LOT of posts. lol.

What could be the problem?

Are you trying what David explains in the first post here? Do you have the proper Java installed? Java Download Help For New Chat Users *READ* if you have problems opening Chat! The real support is in the Forums, though. The chat room is just "fun." I hope it works out for you!

Lilly, you only met the 25 post requirement today and, as has been posted before, sometimes it can take a day or two (depending on exactly when you met the requirements in relation to the system's automatic refresh/update) for the system to recognize that you're eligible for access to the chat and certain other features.
If you still can't get in Saturday morning, let us know..... and don't forget that you need to enter "chat" for the username and password in the pop-up

I still can't get in. I have posted more then 25 times and have been on here way longer then 2 weeks. I am sure Java is still working.

You just reached 25 posts yesterday, so it's possible that the system just has not caught up.

Also, are you entering "chat" in the username and password lines in the login pop up?

The Chat button is on a grey bar across the very top of the page, below the PrisonTalk logo.....between Blogs & Gallery.

Im still not able to log in... i tried today.

Have you read the link that Renee provided in her post above? Type the words "chat" for both the username and the password in the pop-up window. If you don't get a pop-up window, check your settings and make sure you have the pop-up blocker disabled for PTO.

Welcome to PTO! I'm glad you've found us! As has been said in this thread and many others, the chat room is just "fluff" and probably the least useful place in all of PTO for getting information or for connecting with other people. It’s fun, but it is NOT what PTO is all about.

In order to use the chat room, you must have at least 25 posts AND you need to have been a member for 2 weeks or more. Sometimes the system takes a few hours to recognize that you've become eligible for the chat room, so please be patient.

In the meanwhile, there are thousands of discussions you can participate in on the boards, which are the heart of PTO- The chat room is really just icing on the cake.

If you scroll down the Forum Index, you'll surely find a forum that is relevant to your interests and concerns.

Click on the forum title to enter the forum , then click on a thread title to read that thread.

Reply by either typing your reply into the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the thread or by clicking on the "Post Reply" button just above the "Quick Reply" box, then click "Post Reply" when you've finished typing.

To create a new thread, look at the top of the thread list in any forum for a button marked "New Thread", click on that and it will open a window where you can give your thread a title and type up what you want to say or ask. When you are done, click near the bottom where it says "Submit New Thread" and your thread will be posted.

If you ever have trouble finding a post you made, go to the upper right corner of the screen and click on your name. This will take you to your profile. Then choose "Statistics", in that screen, click on "Find all posts by..." and you'll get a list of all of your posts/threads.

Lastly, for now, if you ever get a message saying that your post or thread has been moved, all you have to do is click on the thread title within that message and you'll go right to the new location of your thread or post.

Thank you guys for all the info. Being new to the site and not sure what to expect , it's actually very beneficial !
