Default PreRelease Status in MD

My question is this: When you are reclassed as pre-release, do you automatically get your 10 days a month?

My husband refused to be reclassed as prerelease because he didn't want to be moved and have to wait for a job again. He earns 10 days a month and last time he was moved it took him nearly 3 months to get another job.

He was told today by another inmate that if he'd been reclassed to prerelease, he would automatically get the 10 days, with or without a job.

Anyone know if that is true? The case manager didn't tell him this and he knew why my husband wants to stay status quo

Thanks!

My husband isn't at that stage yet but I know a lady who's husband refused too because he went to prelease and it took to long to get a job. He ended up making his class go up to get moved.

Not a good idea to not get classified to minimum (prerelease status). Allows him to move from a medium level facility to work release/camp. May wait for a job but if housed in a dorm can earn special project credits of 5 days per month for double celling along with 5 day work credit if he puts himself in the general work pool (janitorial/clean up detail). If doing a mandatory sentence, minimum provides higher opportunity to earn time for early release. Minimum may not have as much facilities as medium classified facilities but does provide training options not available in a medium facility. Max credit to earn per month is 15 days total. Credits subtract from the end of sentence and days serve subtract from the front end of sentence. When both eventually meet he reaches his mandatory release date.

Double ceiling credit of 5 days is only for men incarcerated before they threw that out.
