Default Driver Abandons Bus Full Of Prisoners Because Her Shift Was Up

Friday February 15, 2008
CityNews.ca Staff
How closely do you follow the rules at work? Some officials are outraged by the actions of a bus driver in Corsicana, Texas, who may have taken the phrase "by the book" a bit too far. Or in this case, not quite far enough.
It happened Thursday when a driver was ferrying released and paroled prisoners onboard a chartered Greyhound bus to a terminal in Dallas. As the clock struck 4pm, the woman behind the wheel checked her watch, pulled over to a convenience store about 100 kilometres from her destination and promptly told her 40 passengers that her shift was over and someone else would be coming to take them the rest of the way.

That is a mess. And even worse that she came back with the new group.

That just floors me!
I know Lamoin Lawhon, the police sgt there in Corsicana. He's a good guy. Glad he didn't freak out over that.

I hope she is looking for a new job today. I loved the part where the cops said, "the prisoners acted more responsibly than the driver who abandoned them."

With the driver's strong adherance to guidelines and total lack of common sense, I am sure she would be a great TDCJ C/O.

Would this story really matter to the general public if the passengers weren't parolees and newly released prisoners??

I agree with Rag to a certain degree. Poor guys....all they wanted was to get where they were going and look what happened.

I am sure all they could do was think it was "par for the course" if you know what I mean?

Unreal... you'd think if it were truly a matter of following the teamsters/TXDOT regs, she'd have known it would do so far in advance of just adbandoning a bus full of people, recently released inmates or otherwise. I like the fact that none of them freaked out too bad though...and the cop made it known that they coped well. Says a little for their time served.

Thumbs down

It breaks my heart that this happened to those guys. There first experience after being released is being abandoned. The driver needs to be FIRED!

Default Bus Driver

You folks are awesome. I needed a laugh! Loved the comments, especially Lifeofflight and Treys Wife. Good stuff! My friend is doing well. I am going to write a contact visit request this weekend. Funny, my loved one never ceases to surprise me. During visits when I mention things like letters, visits, etc. he acts very low key. Sometimes I think he doesn't hear me. Then he'll write a letter telling me how excited he is about the prospect of contact visits. So.... he does listen, eh? I love him so much!

All of you are wrong. The federal government sets the rules of hours limitations on these drivers. It is not her fault she was out of hours. It just so happened she was in Corsicana when she ran out. She must have notified Greyhound of the problem because Greyhound sent out another bus with another driver and the inmates were taken on to Dallas. I highly doubt she will get anything other than a writeup and that is if she actually "abandoned" the bus. The fines for a OOS violation for the driver and company are into the thousands of dollars.

It's called dying on the law, railroads have been doing it for years with train crews. Thats why you sometimes see a train sitting in the middle of nowhere, the crew's waiting for their relief to be dropped off by van.

Now thats a girl who follows the rules.LOL
On the other side..... As it stated in the article, they follow strict guidelines to hours and breaks.... If she went over her allotted times of driving and had an accident...There could be a law suit on her and the company... I look at it in a positive way that the "prison" thing didn't matter...To me that is a positive
