Default You know the Lorena Bobbit story. But not all of it.

MANASSAS, Va. — Lorena is very matter-of-fact about the whole thing. There, she said as she drove us around in her Kia on a recent afternoon, was the hospital where surgeons reattached John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis after she cut it off with a kitchen knife as he slept on the night of June 23, 1993.

She didn’t do any time. She was acquitted based on temporary insanity but was ordered to a 45 day evaluation at a psych hospital.

That was the point of the article : to show how „ uncrazy ” she is, as well as to distance herself from the sensationalism of the event / trial.

If it did not involve genitalia, would people have cared about the toxicity at the root of the marriage? She was domestically abused and even the former husband’s counsel conceded to that. Stalking, signs of physical abuse [ bruises ] and threats.

Who knows what sets people off in crimes of passion? Many logical people do uncharacteristic things when in a state of hyper - emotions. Hence, she was acquitted based on temporary insanity and the psych evaluation did not show concern, I guess, as she was free to go afterwards.

Don’t know the woman so I cannot defend her but, if one reads the article, in the contemporary contexts, the „ crazy ” remarks don’t seem relevant. The point of writing the article decades later. Historical revisionism?

Intimate partner violence, both male and female, is just terrible, in general.
