My husband just got transferred to cmf from dvi and i want to visit but have a few questions. First, i was approved at dvi for visits, so does that follow here or do i need to reapply? Also, we have a newborn what do i need to bring for him? And last, i have a 2 year old not on the visitor form so can he visit or no? Also his bed is MCHB,what does that mean? Can he get visits?
Somebody please help and answer these. Thanks.

Hi there,
I don't have answers to all of your questions, but I know you posted this awhile ago so you may already have gotten them. If you were approved to visit at DVI you do not have to get approved again--your approval follows you to CMF. To bring your kids you have to bring the official birth certificates...I'm not sure about bringing the child not on your form, but I believe it is okay. You can call the prison to be sure.

I'm also afraid I don't know what "MCHB" stands for, but my best guess it's a mental health bed--does that sound right given your husband's situation? The staff at the prison are generally pretty helpful, and it's a pretty easy going place, so I'd try calling them for answers.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Hi there,
My brother was recently released from CMF, and he volunteered in the hospice while he was there. I shared your questions with him, and his answers are below. If you have other questions please feel free to PM me with your email address, and I can connect you two directly. Here's what he had to say:
Hello Lyffe, I am more than happy to help with your questions. I was just paroled from CMF 3 weeks ago after serving 22 years inside the system. While at CMF I was a Pastoral Care Service volunteers at the Hospice for nearly 3 years.
The hospice unit is amazing, it is as unlike prison as you can get inside a prison. Both the living conditions and the level of care there are wonderful. On the unit is 24 hr. nursing care, with the medications available whenever needed (people outside of the prison system just don’t understand how unusual that is). The doctors make rounds of the unit daily and are specialists in palliative care. I worked closely with the doctors there and would want them treating ME, they are just plain good people! I can assure you that they will truly do everything to make sure that your man is as comfortable and pain free as possible.
Additionally to the nursing staff there is at least one inmate PCS worker there 24/7! As workers and volunteers we make sure that there is always someone to be there for the men in the hospice.
The director of the Hospice is Chaplain Keith Knauf and he is a great man who does everything he is able to do to help the men in the unit.
To get to some of your specific questions:
Visiting: the hospice still has 4 days a week! Thursday and Friday are 12:00 to 7:30 and Saturday and Sunday are 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The visiting is on the Hospice unit where there is a day room with a nice TV and VCR/DVD (they have a movie library) as well as comfortable chairs and tables on the main floor, definitely better than the normal visiting rooms. As you are being escorted in you can stop off at vending machines the pick up food, and there is a microwave, refrigerator, ice-machine, toaster, etc. on the unit. If you were approved to visit at the prison he is currently at, then you are approved to visit at CMF, those are statewide. I believe that there can be up to 5 visitors at a time normally, but I have seen exceptions made in special situations.
Phone: There is a collect call phone right there on the unit that the men can use every day, as many times as they need! Additionally, Chaplain Keith has a phone in his office that can be used if collect calls are a problem, GTL issues and what not.
A good website with visiting information is
http://cmf-ifc.uphero.com/index.html

There have been some good news stories that should help to give you some good information on the hospice
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...0840.htmlstory
http://www.ktvu.com/news/news/prison...-reform/nKz2y/
http://www.kpbs.org/news/2010/jan/21...ornia-prisons/

Hopefully that helps out a bit.
I would be more than happy to answer any more questions that you have. Rest assured that he will be in good and caring hands at CMF.

You know my heart goes out to you and your loved one. I am having a hard time typing this with the tears in my eyes. I am sure you have met JMK and her mom at breakfast at our second home in Soledad. They were at CTF when I was still at SV.
JMK
I have tears of JOY for you and your mom. I am so happy that your bro has finally came home.
I have a couple of questions for your bro.
When the inmate is no longer able to go to the visiting room, how do visits work? Do they restrict it to immediate family members?
Have you seen anyone released on a compassionate release?
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am sure you know what a wonderful sis and mom that you have.

My husband just got transferred to CMF and I'm going for my first visit on Saturday. I'm so excited because this will be our first contact visit! So I am wondering what is the visiting room like? Is it an open room with tables or are there sections closed off by glass for each family visiting? I'm bringing my toddler and I'm worried if the room is open she will be running all over the place and it will be hard to visit. Also do they allow strollers?
