Default Local to Victorville Phone Numbers?

Hi All,

I need some advice and help regarding getting a local phone number for my son to call me on. I'm in Colorado btw.

We've tried "save on prison calls.com" but then that started not working for some reason and then he let me know that google voice was free so we tried that and that number wasn't considered local (prefix of 239) so that didn't work.

He told me that the area code should be 760 and prefix either 493 or 991. I'm not sure how to go about getting a number with a specific prefix. And looking back the saveonprisoncalls.com phone number was a 760-493 number. Maybe I should go back to them?

Any advice. This is very frustrating.

Thank you

Bonita

You have to be careful that anything you do is not determined to be "call forwarding" by the bop inmate telephone system. That is forbidden, and if discovered will result in a conduct violation and the loss of all phone privileges for months.

Having your cellphone number changed to a local number to Victorville is not call forwarding, but adding a second number to the existing one might be. I could never get a straight answer, but your son can try asking his counselor or the CO in charge of inmate calls.

Some people who use Google voice get away with it, but using it is against the phone rules. I personally saw Google voice cost inmates 6 months of phone restrictions, plus time in the hole, so use it if you want to.

I had Google voice when my husband was first moved to the Feds. They found out and thankfully because we both really didnít know it was against policy, they just removed my number. I had to go through the process of being approved again for calls. He was told by his counselor he couldíve been written up.
