Not yet but close to the airport or better on the same island. I've chatted with a few people over there and Nassau wasn't hit that hard, it's the surrounding islands that were mostly destroyed. They told me Nassau was just a lot of rain and wind...

I still don't know if it's going the Bahamas or Panama for the first year... my anxiety level has actually reached inhumane levels...

I have to share this with you... I'm sitting here and actually laughing...
I've asked my current employer if I could keep my job-ticket for the public transportation system for another month and also my mobile contract for one month until I move... my HR boss just called me back and said: we cannot do that for misc. reasons but we saw you have a "notice period" of 5 months so we're giving you 5 month's pay on top of your severance pay... then you can buy a new phone and a monthly pass...
And I'm going on my own, they didn't let me go....
They just giving $$$ away... LOL...

rofl!!
Cool!
My old job just kicks you in the netherregions and says see ya, dont let the door hit you in the ass, and oh yeah.....you sucked as an employee.

Ok not that bad. I saw my old *temporary* post master the other day in the grocery store. He was like.....so how's retirement? Im like, eh. Its ok. Found out he got he permanent position with my old office so now he's official.
I told him straight up..........you have a BUNCH of great employee's there. You should know that and treat them good. Sure you have a few who are not so great, but almost all of them are GREAT.
Of course he focused on the few who are not so great. Sheesh.
Free advice dude..........treat your employees good. Its not hard.

You know, I've been through a furlough and job-loss in the US, happened to me and my ex-husband and it's not pretty. Germany is in comparison a "land of milk & honey" and I only noticed that again when I moved back to Germany in 1996. People complaining here are complaining on a very high level.
I've been checking on all possibilities like medical insurance, etc., and what will happen with that once I leave my company. I have to register as "without a job" and the moment I do that I'm covered. Medical + Dental. I might not receive unemployment because of my severance pay but I'll be covered which is great - same is with retirement insurance. That continues.
So yes, I'm giving up a cushy lifestyle for a life in a country not as cushy in many social aspects, I need to earn good money and need to be able to put a lot away to be able to have a decent life after retirement. But fortunately my retirement payments I've made over the last 23+ years in Germany will pay me out even living in the US. But I need to cover the gap for those next years working in the US with a 401k.
Damn, it's been so much info and things to check, I have a constant migraine... but things will work out...
But.. my move will be delayed for a bit, probably mid/end of December so I have some time to pack
Will come over mid October again to have my "hand-over" with the lady leaving the job and finalize everything hopefully.
Try to see my guy up in NC, he's doing real good and I'm glad to see the old Jeffrey almost back

I am glad you have a bit of breathing space. I can imagine it’s exhausting but exciting also.
I think the richer European countries offer citizens a much more cushy deal than the USA. In the uk our free health care for all and generous unemployment pay. It’s surprising how many here moan though. I guess many are never satisfied.

I just saw a report on some morning show here where someone mentioned that we (as in Germans) are all doing way too good. We have it too good here. So even though you are well protected once unemployed (with or without a severance pay) it's still not enough. It's never enough for some people.
That's why I don't get all the beggars and homeless people here... it should not happen - at least not to most of them. We have taken thousands of immigrants into our country, even most of them they land on their feet a few months later or move on to greener pastures. Everyone here has access to a meals, showers, shelters, in extreme cold we have busses for them to warm up in, in the heat we give out water to them, etc....
I understand there are exceptions, some fates are not homemade but there's help in all directions...
Germans are complainers, that's a fact.

And so it continues.... I got my flights for my next trip to Miami... will be there from Oct. 18 through Nov. 1, attending my first Senior Leadership Team Event which my new company will host, will have the official hand-over with the lady I'm taking over for, looking for an apartment and signing my contract.
Can't wait and if keywii is up for dinner (or anyone else for that matter), happy to meet up! Staying in a hotel in Coral Gables again.
My anxiety-level is at inhumane levels but I'm also very very happy to have that chance!

I only know one word in German. And in trying to look it up I cant find it.
(probably because i dont know how to spell it) My dad taught it to me when I was little, and when he was stationed in Germany for a bit.
He told me it meant crazy. Sounds like spinstew.
While talking with a girlfriend and her cousin one time this came up and I told them its the only word I know in German and I said it and both of them cracked up, saying omg omg.......
So do you know the word and what is the actual translation??????

Sorry off topic here.

I hope your stay is fun and it would be cool if you got to meet some pto members during your stay. You'll have to tell us all about it if you do!
Try not to stress too much. I know I would be as well.

lol
Spinner? A "spinner" is someone acting crazy and somewhat irrational. Maybe it was that?
Would love to have a little German lessen with you ladies/guys one night at a bar... I remember my ex-husband (American) was perfect at German after many beers..

My hub speaks a little German. I think he took it in hs, but his folks spoke dutch which I understand has some similar words. (could be wrong there, as I know there are different dialects for both languages)
We were watching some movie the other night that had some German in it and he would laugh and Im like? What? ?What did they say? lol

oh hahaha

I just put it in google translate and it says the english translation for spinner is CRACKHEAD.

Update update: plan is as of now me moving to Panama City, Panama, after Christmas/New Year's sometime and will commute to Miami. Easier to get the visa for Panama and we have a huge hub there as well... we as in my new company.
Checked out some apartments in Brickell (Miami downtowish) and that's a nice place to live but this'll to wait until I get a visa for the US in hopefully 1-2 years but at least I know a little what's out there...
Just got back from Miami yesterday and welcome Germany +/- 47°F and rain... total fall-depression-weather... good grief...I loved the weather in Miami, can't get enough of it.

If you live there, you will get plenty of their weather, especially during the Summer heat/humidity, but Panama may have you completely acclimatized by then, LOL. This also may be the worst time ever to obtain a US Visa, but your employer should be able to help.
