Default Food Stamp for People Convicted of a Drug Felony

I am advocating for a change in the SNAP (food stamp) law as it pertains to people convicted of a drug felony and who receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income) or SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance). As the law stands now, people convicted of a drug felony and receiving SSI or SSDI do not qualify for SNAP. I am working on changing this law. If you or you know someone who receives SSI or SSDI and are not able to receive SNAP due to a drug felony, please contact me at [email](Removed per policy; Please contact member via pm system)

Yeah, this isn't going to happen, and rightfully so.

Perhaps you should change your absolute "yes" or "no" strategy. In Ky, drug offenders can qualify for SNAP provided they have received treatment and/or attended a class/program that lasted at least 6 months

Yeah I unfortunately have a drug felony until my probation is over and it drops to a misdemeanor...I have 2 kids, work a full time job, and I am struggling like hell to keep food in their bellys. It sucks. It's crazy, they take MY income into consideration, but then don't count me as part of the household, so its MY income and a household of 2 so of course it has me making too much to qualify. It's ridiculous, I just thank God that eventually it will drop to a misdemeanor and I will be able to reapply. Also they need to change the information that they share in the re-entry programs here in Indiana, my husband just went through it and they told them that if they have completed treatment for drugs etc and have a drug charge they can send that in and get approved anyway...I looked it up, yeah..not in Indiana you cant. As patchouli stated in other states they have that option and I think that would be a great idea here.
