Default 1st wave of KY releases as of 4/2/2020

During Thursday's news conference, Cabinet Secretary J. Michael Brown announced the governor signed an executive order that resulted in sentencing commutations of 186 C and D-class felons that may be more vulnerable to the virus. Sec. Brown said 743 additional inmates within six months of completion of their sentences could also be released as soon as next week.

Beshear says inmates eligible for this are in prison for non-violent and non-sex related crimes.

I am assuming that the 743 for 6 months early are ones not eligible for MRS. Because why do something that is already being done?

My boyfriend is extremely optimistic about the possibility of being released early. I wish I could share in his optimism. The maximum expiration of his sentence is in 2037. He is up for parole next year, however. I tried to tell him that it seems like they are only releasing inmates who are over 60 years old or who have weakened immune systems or who are within six months of the expiration of their sentence. He wants me to write to the governor to try and make sure he is among those who are released.

I would love nothing more in this world than to see him get out soon. I just feel that it’s a fool’s errand to write to the governor when technically he has 17 years until his sentence expires and he is in good health and well under the age of 60. He says I should be more positive but I don’t want him to get his hopes up for something that I feel is very unlikely to happen. Is there any real chance that he’d be released early? He is a non-violet offender so he does have that going for him. But still, if they were to release him, with over 15 years left on his sentence, wouldn’t that have to mean that they are releasing almost all of the non-violent offenders in Kentucky? And I just don’t see that happening.

As stated in the article above:

"It's only for C and D-class felons that may be more vulnerable to the virus.
Beshear says inmates eligible for this are in prison for non-violent and non-sex related crimes."
