Wow, I am so glad I found someone I can ask questions. This place has no info online and I can't find any info from anyone.
I did see that building 10 is the mental health building. Does every person has its own cell/room? I understand that its not a hospital but how bad is it? How is food? I would be visiting with a small child. What is there to do for a 4 y.o for hours?!!! He would be in low security. I wish they still had camp. What security level is your son?

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the federal forums.

You are correct that your husband may not be sent where his judge said. The MCFP is what the bop considers a hospital, so he will only go there if his medical or mental condition warrants it. All security level prisoners are sent to the hospital, so it is classified as a high security institution.

Here is a link to the bop web page for MCFP Springfield with information about visitation too.

Can you please explain "all security level prisoners are send to the hospital". They won't put someone who is low security with someone who is high security. Right? Thanks for any info about this place.

Wrong sorry. There are many ways for folks with minimum security classifications to end up in situations/cells with higher security level inmates. bop hospitals are one of them, as are most "in transit" movements. They can be temporary, or long term when the bop decides that a "management variable" suits them.
