Default Visitation Approval Green River: NCIC background or just an instate?

Hi, does anyone know the exact process for getting approved for visitation at Green River in Kentucky? I have been told different things, trying to get some accurate information. Do they do an NCIC background or just an instate? Do they even do a background unless there is a red flag? I had some issues almost 8 or 9 years ago, but was told they only go back 5 years? How long does approval take, Ive been told one day to one week? Just looking for an idea of what to expect. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea how they run their background checks. I do know the forms ask for your Social and asks if you are an ex-offender, on probation or parole, or an ex-employee.

Here's the policy on visits with the form at the end. Do NOT send it to the inmate. He will know before you will whether you've been approved.

Hello, I might be able to help...my Son is serving his sentence at Green River prison in Kentucky & i went through the visitation procedure. First He had to request the visitation form, mail it to me, then i filled it out & signed it, then I had to mail it to the prison (address will be printed on the forms), then my Son told me when I was approved. I researched the Green River website visitors rules & regulations at that time, the rules may have been modified since I visited. You need to make sure you wear close-toed shoes (no flip flops or sandals), with socks. No tank tops, short shorts or short skirts- nothing revealing is permitted. You may only carry in one clear plastic bag containing your ID/DRIVER'S LICENSE, $20 cash in singles only, no change, NO PENNIES. You may want to arrive a good 45 minutes before visitation begins, it can get pretty crowded. You will go through 2 check point gates, park in the visitor lot, stand at the visitor glass door & wait for someone to let you in. Once inside, an Officer will check your clear bag, take your driver's license (you will be given your license back when your visit ends), they have you walk through a scanner, then an Officer takes you into a private room & has you remove your shoes; they look between your toes, under your tounge, they check your hair, and you will be pat down... you have to be able to show you are not carrying in any contraband. Finally you will be lead through a series of doors & into the visitation room. There are numbered tables (you will be given a number by the Officer), sit at your #table and within moments your loved one will appear! There are a lot of food/snack/drink machines & a microwave. You are allowed to buy whatever you want to for yourself & your loved one, however, prisoners are NOT allowed to touch any money at any time. You are permitted to give your loved one a welcome hug & kiss at the beginning of the visit and then once again when the visit ends. I was nervous because it had been a long time since I'd been able to see my Son, and I was afraid I would cry. I did not want to upset him, and I was able to keep it together thankfully, and we had a good visit. It was so nice to hug him, and i was surprised at how much he'd grown! He was so young when he went in, now he's a grown man. I was also shocked at how much he ate during our visit and how grateful he was to be able to drink a cold Coke.
The officers were very nice to me & as long as you follow their rules you should not have any issues. I hope everything goes well & that you have a pleasant visit with your loved one! Good luck!
