Default Self Surrender on Oct. 15 and I am freaking out!

I've never been in trouble before. I live in Ohio. I am a mom of 3 with no family or anything. Just my kiddos and my (sad to say lazy) fiance. I have to self surrender in October at Alderson, which is scary in itself because it is so far away from home. Is there anyone who would talk me through some things? I am having panic attacks multiple times a day. Can't sleep or eat. I know it probably sounds pathetic, but I am scared. :/

The first time facing prison or jail is terrifying for everyone, and their families too. Believe me it won't be nearly as bad as you fear. Minimum security camps, the lowest security level in the bop, are closer to colleges than they are to penitentiaries.

You will be eligible to spend the last part of your 10 month sentence living in a half way house, or even at home on home confinement. That is decided by your bop unit team's case manager, so be sure to inquire about your specific case. It may be preferable to ask after some time has passed instead of the first time you have a team meeting, which will happen quickly.

What is considered to be the last part of a 10 month sentence? Please tell me they count the last 8 months to be the last part? haha just kidding...that would be nice though.

The Second Chance act allows the bop to place every prisoner in a HWH for up to one year (Home confinement is limited to a maximum of 6 months) but they aren't required to allow even one day in "community corrections". Also, since sentences of one year or less do not earn "good time", when I was in FDC Miami, people with short sentences served every day of it in prison. Hopefully Alderson will be better, but what you will qualify for is totally up to your unit team, and the warden.

By the way, quite a few PTO members have said they should have served out their entire sentences in a minimum security camp instead of accepting time in the hugely petty half way house.

I am one of those people. I declined halfway house while I was at Alderson and was VERY glad I did.

Yep. If you can walk out free and clear, do it.
