Default Appealing classification score

My husband just found out his score and its at least 3-4 points over what we thought. Hes trying to get the breakdown, but the counselor hasnt been in. If there is an error, what are our options?? Do we have to appeal it? Would we have to get an attorney involved?? Any info/advice, thank you!!!!

Iím assuming he is in the BOP. If thatís the case he will need to get the breakdown from his counselor. If that doesnít work, he will need to go through the administrative remedy process, which could take time.

What do they say his score is? Would the difference in scoring get him to a lower security level?

We thought hed be a 16, then we found out if hes on a parole (state sentence served first consecutively) its considered a detainer so then we figured 17. But the counselor told him he had 20. Yeah hes trying to get the breakdown for sure. But yeah he was hopin to go to a low, if not later once they reclassify him, but we know hes going to Hazelton Medium right now.

He can file an inmate grievance with his unit team. If he disputes his custody score, the bop designation office in Texas will review it. It needs to be as specific as possible, which score is inaccurate and why, so waiting for the actual score sheet is important.

You can go through the classification online. It’s on BOP’s website and it’ll give you an idea of where your husband should be. Might be a good idea to include your own designation classification form to any write up you do.

We’ve been successful in having my husband’s points corrected in the past. I was able to point out exactly where their mistake was by comparing my classification form against theirs (your husband can get a copy of his from his councilor).

Here's the link to the bop custody score program statement containing the actual form and the instructions so you can do your own for comparison.
