Default CALIFORNIA INMATE LOCATOR/ ID WARRANTS UNIT - Questions & Info

This is just an FYI to let you guys know that the inmate locator (ID/Warrants Unit) at 916-445-6713 is NOT 24 hours anymore? I just found out last night. It is only open from 8-5, Monday-Friday, excluding all state holidays. But now instead of waiting on hold, like I did for 38 minutes, you can fax in your inmate locator request to 916-322-0500

Thanks! Then do they fax you back the information?

I know the hold can be excessive. I was on hold so long once I fell asleep, the person must have answered while I was sleeping, because when I woke up the line was dead like they hung up. LOL! Then I had to call back and start over again.

I believe that they do, if you include your return fax number on it. I am going to try it out for myself right now and I will post to let you guys know what happened.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for them to reply to your fax when you send it....

I've sent a number of faxes, and not gotten a response.

The best thing is to simply call & wait.

Geez, I don't think they are even at the other end, that is all I get, day after day, busy, busy, busy!!! The other day I called at 4:20 and the recording came on saying, " are hours are Mon thru Fri 8 am to 5 pm. We are closed call back between are hours of operation. What do you call 4:20 pm on Friday? Since when did 4:20 become after 5 pm? Sorry but its frustrating not getting thru...... Gotta love the system

Default FYI... Inmate Locator Phone # Hours Have Changed

Same here, All4Tag. I called today about 4:30 and got the recording that the offices are closed, along with recording about the hours of operation as 8-5pm. I don't know how the *system* pretends to know the ratio between how many people are holding to how many employees are answering the calls. Or how long each one will take. But I'm guessing they stop taking calls at 4pm, maybe earlier. So there aren't as many people on hold who are automatically disconnected at 5pm. The *system* sees Inmate Locator as low priority, since it is only of benefit to families or any support system that in turn benefits the inmate population.

Default The Phone Systems In The Ca Prison System

Yea you are lucky if you actually get through ive also called many #s and you either get a busy signal or some story about the phones being down ...truth be told they really dont hire enough people to take the calls .... well its stinks big time when you are calling for the whole amount of time that they accept calls to get a visiting appointment and the phne is busy.. busy ..busy... busy... beep beep each day so i have found that if you are visiting 1 time each month and are traveling a distance over so many hundred miles they can schedule you an appointment the week you are going for the weekend if they are not on lock down...hummm and dont you think family support is very important ? I know this loved one is doing time but I want to help support him so he never goes back yes i do believe you can make a diffrence ...and also we need to let people know so we can change this system it can be easy ...... you know i drive 11 hours to see him because i am his mother and i love him he needs that because they can never take that away its in humane to treat familys this way, and they think that we dont know they still have some rights .

Default another option

While you can still talk to them in County jail tell them to hook up with someone where they're transfered that can make a 3 way just to let you know where he is. Or have someone call you after he gets on the transfer bus--someone he's been locked down with will know where he's going.

Three way calls are prohibited in California and in Reception it would be very difficult to make contact with someone with access to a phone.

Arnie is cutting back on everything california is coming up with a 8 billion short at the end of the fiscal year. They can do what ever they want because no official cares about a convict...truth..I've done this for thirty years...

I had the same thing happen. I called at 8 am and stayed on the line until almost 9. Then when I called back, it was constantly busy. What's up with that?

It's always hit and miss with the locator. You just have to keep trying.

There is a website that you can go to to locate an inmate in county jail, but i cannot post the site becuase the forum doesn't let me. Just search google or any search engine for LASD Inmate Information Center - Inmate Search.
You can find out if your loved one is in county and if they have moved and also if they are going to be moved.

The inmate locator is always busy. Seems the best chance is to start calling at 7:55 and just keep hitting redial.

If you know where he is, you can TRY calling records at his prison and asking for his info. Some prisons will give it to you - especially if you say you can't get through to the Inmate Locator.

Good luck!

I'm sitting on hold with the inmate locater right now & it made me laugh when the recording said, "your call is important to us, please hold." Important? right... sure... i believe it... maybe.
