Default Berlin Visits

I will be making a long 3 hour drive alone this weekend for a visit in Berlin. Can you please give me any information on what to do when I get there? I got so used to Concord and I have no clue what to do when I get to Berlin. Do I need to bring my own lock. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Scarlet.my son is in Berlin. It is a long but beautiful drive to get there. You have basically the same dress code.....they have coin machines there and you can bring in I think it is $30 now, as prices in machines have gone up. They have locks there and you just put a coin piece in and take it out. They are friendlier there I find than Concord was and will help you. You sign in on a book your address and make of your car......no cell phones are allowed in the building. You give them your license and tell them who you are there to visit and then walk through a ......whatever you call it. It is much easier than Concord and less crowds. You can give them a hug and kiss when you greet each other in the visiting room. I think you can hold hands as I have seen others. Inmates aren't allowed to go up to the vending machines as they were before....makes it hard to know what they want versus what is available...but. Just pure vending machines with wrapped foods.....no fresh fruits or milk, juice like in Concord.
There are games to take to your table like Scrabble.

Any other questions just ask.

Hi mitcellsgurl, welcome to PTO! I know that there are members here that go to the Berlin (NCF) facility for visits, but I can't answer for them. However I must post a dislosure about requesting rides. Hey, I'm glad you found us and hope this doc journey goes by fast for you both. Meanwhile, you are NOT alone, PTO is always here.

-----------------------------------------------------------

We would like to encourage our members to consider the following precautions when entering into a carpool/ride-share agreement with another member:

Before agreeing to carpool, certain issues should be discussed and decisions made. Issues that should be settled immediately include members’ feelings about the radio, conversation, smoking habits and eating.

You should also find out whether the vehicle, personal possessions, or clothing of either passengers or driver will contain illegal substances or contraband. This is a very important issue and should be addressed with your fellow travelers.

Prisons routinely search vehicles and you should be aware if there is a possibility of something being discovered and action taken. Most states do not allow firearms, cameras or alcohol on prison grounds - do your research, find out what is the local policy.

Agree in advance on reimbursement for driving expenses, meals, toll roads, parking fees and so on. Agree on a way of payment and a timescale for payment to happen.

If you don’t know your carpooling buddies, feel free to ask them about their driving record. Make sure they have a valid driver's license. Make your pick-up point a public location until you thoroughly trust the other individual. Use common sense and trust your instincts; with a little preparation carpooling can be very rewarding and often leads to long lasting friendships.

Finally, have a safe journey and enjoy your visits.
Happy Trails!

Besids the fact that my dirve to Berlin was a little over 4 hours, I actually found it to be the BEST place to visit. It's quieter, faster to get in, and it had a better place for the kids to play, and it's NEVER crowded. One metal detector and your are in. You can bring $30 and the coin machine was never broken. Just don't look out a window (you get in trouble for that) and make sure the inmate is sitting on the char with the X.
I did see a few interesting things along the way, a family of bears, a few moose, deer... It was pretty scenic. LOL!!!

Wow...that must have been an "animated" scenic ride. The first time I went to see my son, I saw 3 moose....haven't seen anything since....5 years now. I have enough animals at home.....I love the mountain scenery.

I'm nervous about doing that ride but I've already booked my hotel for every Saturday till august lol I found a really cheap place so I can do Saturday and Sunday visits n make that long drive worth it :-) the one cool thing is the Sunday visit is 4 1/2 hours long!!! I'm so excited for that! Any information about the place would be greatly appreciated :-)
