Default Major healthcare providers band together to start producing their own drugs

Peeved by price gouging and shortages, hospitals will now make their own drugs

"Sick of drug companies’ eye-popping price hikes and ridiculous shortages, the feisty hospital systems announced Wednesday that they’ve banded together and formed an unnamed non-profit to make their own steady supply of affordable generic medicines.[...]
Standing with Intermountain Healthcare is Ascension, SSM Health, and Trinity Health. The US Department of Veterans Affairs is also collaborating with the group. Together, they represent more than 450 hospitals across the country.
In an interview with The New York Times, Intermountain Healthcare’s CEO, Dr. Marc Harrison, did not mince words. “This is a shot across the bow of the bad guys,” he said. “We are not going to lay down. We are going to go ahead and try and fix it.” "

Curious how this will affect investors profiles.

As someone who has dealt with the inconsistent generics coming from predominantly Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers, this would be a good thing if they can find some consistency.

Just using generic version of Percocet as an example, there is a serious problem when I have to have the doctor doing the script two-step to deal with dosing problems. One month, X mg from one manufacturer works but the same dosage from a different manufacturer has to be taken in multiple tablet dosings. So we adjust only to find that the pharmacy has changed, yet again, and the double dosage is too much. The saving grace is that I don't have an addictive personality...but such issues cannot help but to be problematic for those who DO have addiction-related problems.
