Colorado Prison and Jail Specific DiscussionsPlease use this forum to talk about Department of Correction prison units, private institutiions, city jails, county jails, etc.
I have a middle-aged family member (by marriage) that just caught a 48 yr sentence and was assigned to Bent. There is not much info on that prison. I would appreciate getting some info…daily life, good/not good characteristics, CO's, available work, etc. Thanks in advance!
Hi, my husband is currently in Bent County Correctional Facility.
They run the place more like a maximum security prison than a medium. Fights and lockdowns are fairly common. Visitation staff is pleasant although strict to the visitation guidelines.
They have a service dog training program though this is not offered to violent offenders or sex offenders.
Other programs include a braille translation program (offered to offenders with 5 or more years with certain education levels) and a truck driving course. Otherwise there are various small jobs for minimal pay (my husband is a GED assistant and gets $20 a month for full time work)
Most jobs are pretty menial such as maintaining bathroom cleanliness, working in the kitchen, etc.
