While its true that guns are not the only *weapon* available.....I think it makes it easier for those who want to do harm to do it.
(mostly thinking of the school shootings, workplace shootings)

Thank you both so much!

Its true we will never be able to stop all attacks with new legislation, these bastards are crafty, it would make it a lot harder to kill the sheer numbers that he has... Sadly those mosques at lunchtime Friday were like shooting fish in a barrel. I guess we are hoping that without semi automatic weapons this number would have been far less.

Honestly, I'm really not sure if we have a penalty suitable. Though in fairness with at least 49 murder charges he will never see the light of day again and I imagine his time in prison will be torrid. excuse me while I don't feel bad about that.

Its immensely saddening that some of my hijab wearing Islamic friends now no longer feel safe here. But you are absolutely right... we have had to explain to our children that there are monsters out there but we are able to temper this with the absolute fact we have super heroes too, in all of lifes facets.

I'm home in my little north island seaside village now, grateful for more than I was when I left a few short days ago. Looking at a country changed completely in those hours and knowing we will never be the same. At the same time also knowing that we will never accept the hate shown by a single man on a quiet Friday in March.

Kia Kaha Aotearoa, I'm proud of you

Yup, 50.

Thank you Sidewalker... yes, we will get through this. We are a resilient people. He thought he would drive a wedge through the fabric of our society. Instead, Kiwi's are embracing each other and loving each other and getting stronger by the day.
Hate will never win.

No! I saw that too and my heart plummeted. Now sending love north to the Netherlands in these hideous times. Can't we just stop hating on each other?

So sad to hear of another terrible incident in the Netherlands. it appears to be another terrorist incident , so much hate , the world has gone mad.

A Year ago my country changed forever.
I just wanted to thank you all that took the time to speak with me while it was ongoing, I was working in beautiful Christchurch and was petrified. We didnt know what was happening or how many shooters there were. The fact that you took the time just to comment really, really helped me out. We are unable to commemorate today because of Coronavirus. We may not be together, but we remember. May we stay safe, healthy and happy. Please look after yourselves, the world faces new challenges, but I truly believe we are up to the job.

Again, thank you all for helping me keep me calm and sane. I wont ever not be grateful or forget that you all took the time.
