Default 3 officers to be fired in DeSoto county for beating inmate

DeSoto County Sheriffs Department plans to fire 3 officers involved in the alleged beating of Jody Holland.

Quote:
The three deputies allegedly involved in the beatings, Vincent Carlucci, Steve Rizza and Ashley Cross, have been served "intent to terminate" letters and were removed from paid administrative leave and placed on unpaid suspension pending their termination, according to sheriff's Major James Vitali.

Other facts...

A nurse at the jail, Christine Routson, who accused Holland of domestic violence leading to his initial arrest, resigned while she was under investigation.

The jail's commander, Capt. Ray Kugler, has also resigned while under investigation.

At least one of the 3 officers being fired has already hired an attorney.

The FBI and FDLE continue to investigate and a federal grand jury is to be convened this week.

Wow,for once they took the beating of an inmate as a serious issue and to look into their innocence also just seems so out of the ordinary.I hope this is a trend!

To update this story...the ex-chief of the jail, Captain Ray Kugler, has agreed to plead guilty to lying to federal agents, a felony.

The domestic battery charges against Mr. Holland, alleged by his former girlfriend who was also a nurse at the jail, have been dropped.

Indictments appear likely by the federal grand jury. The state plans to also file charges but have put it on hold waiting for the results of the grand jury.

I am pretty skeptical as to these individuals ever getting any kind of prison time.Somehow "the system" will make sure they dont spend one day in prison. People in official positions who abuse the rights of citizens should get hard time

Jackson ci had almost the exact same thing going on. I have to say even though I had my doubts at the time. The right people were arrested doing time, or fired.

Write lots of letters and send cards, accept collect calls what ever it takes so the prison knows there is someone on the outside watching.
