Default GTL pre-paid accounts and ringtones

Just curious if anyone knows whats up with this or have even noticed it themselves....
Ok so my hubby just transferred from SVSP to New Folsom this weekend right? When he calls me i set it up in my phone to a totally different ringtone than the default one-( just so i can tell that its him when it rings and that way i don't have to JUMP EVERY TIME my damn phone rings to check who it is lol cuz it rings ALOT or, you know, if im in the shower or something). Anyway, so he left SVSP on friday and today my phone starts ringing and its HIS ringtone, i look at it and its his contact name and everything- at first im thinking its his brother, who's also at SVSP and calls me here and there to check in, let us know hes good and all that kind of stuff. But when i answered it and it connected us it was from my hubbys new cellie in Folsom (calling for him)! Now,don't get me wrong lol- i was SUPER STOKED to get the call- thats not what im tripping on at all.....im TRIPPING on the fact that it came from the exact same number that it did when he would call from SVSP!? Lol- is that WEIRD or am I WEIRD? Lmao- im hella serious though.....is the number like attached strictly to MY GTL account no matter what prison the call comes from? Im confused lol so if anyone wants to explain all that to me....
I'D TOTALLY APPRECIATE IT. thx

My husband has moved three times since I've met him, it's always been the same number. I'm glad because I don't answer numbers I don't know and I don't have to remember to update my contacts.

Oh for sure lol- it definitely works out better for me if the number is always the same....i just didn't realize that it DID that. So basically does that mean that whenever a person thats incarcerated calls me from ANY institution, it directs the number that they are ACTUALLY calling from, somehow, to this same TX number that shows up in my phone when my hubby calls? Maybe so the rates are always the same or something? Idk lol i still think its hella weird. Not a bad weird but still WEIRD.

I believe all CDC facilities using GTL are routed through a GTL number with a TX area code. That's been the case for us, anyway. Must be one heck of a switchboard.

Yeah, that's the number everyone receiving a call from an inmate at CDCR prisons see. That's a Houston, TX area code and all outgoing (inmate call system) calls are routed by GTL to that originating number.

If, say, his counselor would call you....the number showing on your phone would be local to the prison, but the inmate calls are routed via TX.

Huh. Ok well now i know lol-thx i appreciate all the info Just one more question though y'all....
Do you know...(anyone) how that works as far as the rates for calls go? Our calls are hella cheap so far ( its pretty much like 2- 15 min calls for $5 which is SO much cheaper than prison calls USED to be, and actually a lot cheaper than even the local calls from county here)....so i mean im not complaining about it..but if it can be cheaper lol - im always down for cheaper, right? So where im going with this is do you think minute rates would be LOWER than they are now if i was to have a Houston TX phone number for him to call?

Despite the number being from TX, it's actually based on your phone number and the facility location. I get a Straight Talk number with the area code/prefix for his facility and we pay about $1.72 per 15 min call.

Well hes closer than hes actually ever been now...its (im sure) a 916 area code to a 530 (mine)- i was just not sure how big of a difference it would make if i got a 916 number? I actually already have a phone with a 916 number so it wouldnt be an issue but i dont really want to have to carry around both phones (if i cant forward the calls from one to the other) if i dont have to-is there a way to find out thr exact difference in rates?

I can see my call rates and how much money I have left on my phone when I log into my account online (www.connectnetwork.com) If you've set up your account via phone, I'd call the GTL customer service to find out what the rate is.
