Many Mississippi prisoners kept locked up past release dates due to housing shortage

Hundreds of state prisoners remain incarcerated months after they are eligible to go free each year, a new report shows.

Over the last four fiscal years, 4,202 people spent 60 or more days in prison even after the parole board said they could be released, according to data compiled by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. About 1,500 of those individuals spent 90 or more days, or at least three months, locked up.

I would be livid. This is unacceptable....I can't imagine being in prison, knowing I should be released and having to stay there

Wow.....what in Hades has happened to Mississippi? It's almost like they're saying to the feds "take me! take me! abuse me! beat me! save me from myself!

I believe the Feds have already (recently) taken over, or are in the process of doing so because of the 14 inmate deaths - since Dec. 29, 2019

The feds need to take over if its come to this. Man, I'm surprised that things have gotten out of hand like that.
