Default How to write a reconsideration letter for community corrections

Can someone please tell me how to write a reconsideration letter for my boyfriend who was sentenced 3 years in prison, but before we went to court he was already accepted to community corrections. Now he is wanting me to write a letter to the judge convincing her to release him to community corrections.

Is his lawyer filing a reconsideration Motion of his sentence that you're writing a letter for? My fiancé was sentenced a short 1yr with a reconsideration possible within a certain period of time, i believe 120days. his public defender is about to file that motion next week. His lawyer personally, told me to write more of a letter focusing on character and support, reasons why he shouldn't be in DOC, and out on probation. What types of opportunities and support he would have available to succeed. We are including letters from others, who have work available for him. There are different types of motions of reconsideration that can be filed & I think that would determine what you should put in your letter.

Yes his 120 days are up april 7th I believe, and yes his public defender is filing a motion for reconsideration for community corrections. But his public defender said that he would have to do a minimum of 7 months in DOC before he could go to community corrections. Its just frustrating because he's in there and he knows how the system works and I don't. Thank you for letting me know what to focous on writing in the letter.

Make sure to check with his lawyer about what you should include (and exclude too) in your letter. Have the lawyer review it, and submit it to the judge. You want to avoid any unintended consequences from trying to help.

I hope he gets released to CC soon.

I have no idea how DoC goes either, I've been just learning the past couple months, not like how my man knows the system, and I'm okay with that..haha. Just turn in the letter to the Pubic Defender asap so they have timw to contact you to make changes if they dont like it. Good Luck! I hope community corrections happens for him. My man is at Bent too.

I found a few articles that may be helpful to you. (and who knew all this stuff was there! still get surprised at what is available...)

This discusses the acceptance/rejection placement criterion:
http://www.co.weld.co.us/assets/9dCd...9b29D6B83D.pdf

This discusses the actual filing of the motion:
http://www.ehow.com/how_10015780_fil...-colorado.html

And finally, this addresses the actual writing of the letter:
http://www.ehow.com/how_8180505_writ...ter-judge.html

I would use these as guides to discuss with his attorney. I would want to make certain that what is discussed is accurate AND if it is, that it is presented in the best way for your situation. His lawyer is the expert, so make sure everything you do is with his/her consultation & advice. Good luck!
