Default Customs experience ?

Hi there!

I was just wondering for everyone who visits from outside of the US what your experience has been like upon entry with the border control officers?

What kind of questions do you usually have to answer? Has anyone ever had any issues or does it usually go smoothly?

I get extremely nervous about the thought of explaining to US customs that I am visiting an inmate.

Any advice would be highly appreciated

When I went through the Immigration at LAX, the officer asked me if I was in the country for business or pleasure.... I said pleasure, and he welcomed me to the U.S. and wished me a good stay. That's all.

You're not breaking any laws by visiting an inmate, so if the conversation goes to questions that are that detailed -- there's nothing to be concerned about nor is there any need to lie. I always say that the best policy with U.S. Immigration is honesty, because whatever you say at the port of entry will stay on their file indefinitely...as long as there are no inconsistencies, you're fine.

Even if you tell them you’re visiting an inmate, I doubt they’ll care enough to scrutinize you. They are looking for patterns. They’ll likely ask how you know him, for how long and other details if it comes up. They want to establish you are not a security threat to come into the country. If you have no criminal history, you’ll be fine.

They asking every person the same on the border. Just came back a week ago from the US (I also visited someone). It was pretty easy as always. Normal questions, business or vacation, how much money do you have, what kind of job you have, how long do you stay in the states. Be honest and everything is easy.
