Default Canteen money but none used (is this normal?)

On Friday morning, I made sure as soon as I found out my son's number I put money in his account - he mentioned one time he couldn't wait until he was able to buy a coke or something. When I call the number to check the balance it is all still in the account. Is this normal or should I be worried? He is in Orlando waiting to find out where they are going to send him. They took him there on Thursday and I know everyone has told me he may be there a few weeks but shouldn't he be able to buy canteen? I am worried something is wrong.

Blueheart. I would not worry. In prison it is not like it is in county. They do not get to commissary every day. Maybe like once a week or once every two weeks. So I am sure he just has not had the opportunity to go to canteen yet. I promise he will....

Our county canteen was once a week, the prison is twice a month. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll spend it as soon as he's allowed to order.

At CFRC (Orlando) they are lonly allowed to go to canteen on certain days. It should be every few days. He may not even know he has money if you haven't written to him to let him know. Although he should receive a receipt whenever he gets a deposit in his account, the reception centers aren't always on there game with everything and can be very slow passing out mail (which is how this would be delivered), etc.

Thank you so much for the info - I have been so worried. Maybe I can sleep a bit better tonight. I appreciate it.

Thanks for this info - He is in Orlando so I'll try not to worry so much. Thanks for moving this to the right area - I'm not to good with this site yet.

No problem. Once he is moved to his permanent facility, depending on where he goes, he should be able to go to the canteen every day. Again, this depends on where he goes. Where my husband is they have messed up the canteen and rec yard schedule so much there are some days when he doesn't get to even leave the dorm except to go to work. Hopefully your son will be processed quickly so he can get to his permanent facility and get into the routine of things as soon as possible.

If you called yesterday the automated # is giving you the info for the day before so its giving you the info for Friday (the day you deposied it) my son seems to order evry 3 days he was able to order on his second day there. I would keep checking my son also said they call for canteen ordering by dorms and that it was difficult sometimes as people sell spots in the line.
