Hi, new to this site my man just hit reception recently at NKSP. I just got my visit application & had a couple questions if anyone can help?
For ever been detained, arrested, convicted specifically. A year ago I was detained for questioning & it was dismissed which I wrote down but should I include the search warrant from the incident or property receipt to show proof of it being dismissed? Also one concern I have a Failure to Appear in court for a traffic infraction. I have an attorney on retainer currently taking care of it in court for me is that something I would need to write down as well or show proof of?
If anyone could help me out I’d really appreciate it, just trying to make sure it gets approved the first time lol. Thank you in advance

For SURE list that you were detained, or they will deny your application. Any arrest, conviction etc.
As to the failure to appear, you will need to have that resolved before you will be approved as well. (pretty sure on this anyways) Fines/fees paid as well.
Keep the receipt after its paid and send a copy of that just in case it does not show up when they run your name thru.

What about a ticket for my registration on my car do u know if I have to pay that ticket before I get approved?, I got denied because they couldn't verify my identity so I sent in my birth certificate and copy of my driver's license. They didn't say anything about my ticket which was due on 8/7/19 but I won't be able to make a payment on it till next week or do I just got to wait it out and see what they say?

It may be too new (the ticket and non payment) but I'd pay it and again, keep the receipt.
Hopefully it wont be denied due to that. I dont think tickets per se are the issue but possibly not paying the fine could be (at least as some point)

Unfortunately non payment of even a parking ticket can result in a warrant being entered into some of the law enforcement computer systems. I wasn't able to find the current number of active warrants in California, but New York has 1,200,000 of them, so it doesn't take very much to become subject to arrest by any LE officer you come in contact with.

The answer to your question depends on which databases the prison system checks when vetting visitors.

Thanks guys. Well its my first ticket in California and my last ticket i got was in 2011 and it was in Az. I'ma go down the the police station and make a payment arrangement hopefully that will help with not getting a warrant. Lol

It's tough, so hang on. With each passing day you are one step closer to having this behind you. Hopefully he will not allow his past to rule his future, so be a strong support for him.

Reception is probably going to be the hardest since communication is limited. You should send him letters, envelopes, stamps so he can write to you. Also set up your gtl account so he can call you. Tell him to send you a visiting form so you can go visit him..it takes 4 to 6 weeks to process. make sure he signs the back before he sends it to you..

Question Location within facility?

Hi...I'm new here...I just located my LO at NK (he was just transported there night before last), so now I have his CDCR number so I can write. But do I have to know a block number or something like that, his location within the facility?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can try calling the prison, push buttons on the phone, try to leave message. Maybe you get lucky and get a response.

The inmate mailing address for the facility (a PO box) plus his CDCR number will get to him. Even without cell number although obviously cell number helps. Think of inmate CDCR number as a CDCR inmate specific PO box. Ideal mail address goes something like this:

Inmate name, CDCR #
Inmate cell number
Facility name
PO Box for facility inmate mail
City, state, zip

If the inmate cell number is missing it will still get to him as long as the rest of the address is in place.

Question Different PO Box numbers?

Thank you for your reply. I looked at the site, there are half dozen or more different "facilities" within NK, and each has its own PO Box number. Is there a way to find which facility he is in, or do I call NK to find out?

I really appreciate your help.

I would try to call. And call EARLY in the am. (dont try around the noon hr. or too close to the end of the day)
the main thing is to have his cdcr number on the envelope. And full name.

Thank you! I found him. Building B...PO Box 4999. Finally got a letter FROM him, still don't know if he's getting the "mail" packets I'm sending him. I'd guess not, since he's using the "indigent" mailing envelopes. I sent him one "mail" packet, unfortunately, did not know not to send padded envelope. There goes the paper, stamps, letter, pics. Oh, well. Done is done. I sent off another "mail" packet, no metal on it, and have another one ready for whenever I have the money for stamped envelopes.

Thanks for all your help.

Default New to all of this

So my boyfriend of 10 years just went to jail on January 31st and was sent to NKSP on 2/10 (his admission date says 2/11) I sent him a stationary pack in a priority mail flat rate envelope and that's probably going to come back smh. I have also spent my entire day reading a bunch of posts. I am a damn wreck I swear. I am so scared he might get hurt while he's in there. He got sentenced to 2 years with "halftime: and parole date does say 1/2021 bit I've been asking around and people are saying he could very well get out in as little as 6-8 months. Also I have read a bunch on the cdcr website and it says he will be able to call in the first week then once a month after that. Any and all help will be appreciated also what do u guys think about the priority mail envelope (it's kind of cardboard) I called n the guy said it's a 50/50 chance but just curious what you guys think. I sent 1 book from Amazon too just to see how long it takes to get there. OMG I'm so beyond stressed!!! I ramble when I'm stressed!!!

From CDCR ombudsman site:

Can I call the inmate or can he/she call me while in the reception process?
While in Reception Center, the inmates are given a phone call within the first week and every month thereafter as part of the Reception process. These calls will be made collect to the account the family sets up, and are monitored by the institution. They can also receive mail and writing supplies. The majority of prisons allow 10 stamped envelopes, and a writing tablet to be mailed in first class mail to the inmate.

Jillocity it should come back to you, eventually. lol. (the mail packet) so you can resend it.
(now Im just thinking......it could cost you again for the return depending on what rate you used when mailing the packet)

Mylove4Swede......Next time use the envelopes that are provided by the postal service that are not the cardboard type. They are not stiff like the sorta cardboard ones, but white with red and blue and are flexible, and wont rip open.

Or just use a manila type envelope. Large ones. (they also make white color larger envelopes too....which Ive used as well)
I just sent binder paper (lined like you used in school)
I also would write on the back of the envelope, the date I mailed it, the items included in the packet

ex: 10 prestamped envelopes (1st class)
10 envelopes
1, 2pg letter to inmate.
If stamps were included rather than prestamped envelopes, I'd try to find a spot on the edges of the stamp (that are not the stamp itself) his cdcr number. Also write how many stamps you sent.

Amazingly enough he did get the packet in the padded envelope. I got a letter thanking me. He has said that in reception they spend most of their time in their cells, so it's almost like lockdown. I just sent another packet with 19 stamped envelopes (all the PO had!), 25 sheets of college rule binder paper, and a letter. Seems the mail coming out is way faster than mail going in. I asked him to date his letters so we have a time frame. His letter to me took 10 days. He's doing okay...God put him with another Christian, and they're in the Word and prayer every morning and night.

Thank you for your help and support and advice. It is truly appreciated.
