Default Need help understanding the parole process...

My friend (incarcerated in the TDCJ) told me that he's expecting to be released this summer, but when I took a look at his profile on the official TDCJ website it stated that he was denied for parole last year and that he isn't due for another parole review for a couple years. He explained to me that the Texas system is very spontaneous and they sometimes tell someone at the last minute that they're being released. Is my friend being accurate, or is he caught up in some false hope? Is it possible for someone to be released early because of some factor not related to parole? Thanks!

I wish that were possible, I mean we’d all be sitting on pins and needles all the time. But as far as I know, no that doesn’t happen.

You could call the parole board he is under and ask them, but as stated above it seems odd.

Unless there had disciplinary sanction that has since gone far enough from sanction that a promotion in time-earning status occurred, a file docketed for next review a few years down the road won't just enter the review this summer. The SOLE other exception would be if there had been grounds for an Application for Special Review and where the Special Review was granted.
