Default Watching Dog videos

Ive been watching a bunch of dog/baby videos.
While I think they are super cute to watch......
I actually get rather nervous when Im seeing small ones climbing all over dogs.
I dont know that I'd be that comfortable with having my child/baby be climbing all over a dog.

I had a dog who was a precious thing. Once we had a neighbor come over with her kids. The smallest one (not walking yet) tried to climb over my dog who was laying down.
She didnt snap at the baby, but she did jerk her head around really fast.
I stopped her.

Never again would I let her near little ones.

I do like to see the little ones laugh and giggle tho with the dogs. Super cute.

If you like dog videos the crufts dog show is on in the uk right now. Its lovely to see the best in breeds and the naughty dogs in the obedience competitions. There is a lot on you tube .

I have an amazing dog (great Pyrenees, Anatolian shepherd)...who I raised 4 small children with. Who's never bit or snapped at anyone. But I still don't let my kids pull at him, climb on him, get in his face...because that's good parenting and dog ownership. I don't let them around him when he's eating. Accidents happen when dogs get irritated after they've put up with too much.

I love cute animal vids. When I feel a bit stressed out, I will watch them silly vids and I find myself smiling from ear to ear. This is a good therapy if somebody has had a stressful day. I don't have babies so I don't get nervous. But I hope you get well with that.

Agreed. I don't have kids so my dogs have never been around them much. But to help the dogs not overreact when they were/are around kids, I start immediately playing with their ears/mouth/feet/tail when I bring them home. Not annoyingly, but get them used to being touched. I "examine" their ears/mouths and feet regularly to make their vet visits less traumatic. My last dog was the most gentle thing ever and at 70+lbs would let me take food from her mouth, clean her ears, clean and medicate wounds. But take her into the vet and she was a snarling mess. I felt so bad for the techs and for her, but we learned that she was being protective of me. If I left the room, she wouldn't love them touching her, but she would calm down.

So I'm with you SW, as much as I've trusted my dogs to never bite or snap, it's just not worth the risk. Teaching pets to be tolerant and kids to be respectful of a dog's space is necessary. (still...there are some pet/kid combos that are just freakin' adorable to see)

The dog we have now, I might trust. It would depend on the kid and how he behaved.

This weekend, I got to bbsit my grandson for the first time. He's two and a few months. Oh boy! (lol)
Well after about a half hr from when I arrived, I finally found his shoes and socks.
The plan was to play outside for a good long while (he loves it, and it was a perfect day weatherwise)

He gets out of the house and starts RUNNING. Im trying to keep up, when here comes their dog. He sort of growls and has the hair up all along his back. Im like oh no. (I knew it was because of me, not the baby....the dog was not sure who I was and was protecting him)
I say Hi pup, (high pitched voice to hopefully show Im not a threat) and Grandson sort of pushes the dog out of the way and say.....Oh thats Bo. LOL>
The dog calmed right down. He hung out with us for a good long while that day.
Made me feel good to know the baby has a pal in the dog.
