Shortly after the state Supreme Court turned down a request to postpone Abdul Awkal's execution for the 1992 shooting death of his wife and brother-in-law, Kasich stepped in Tuesday evening to temporarily spare his life. "I almost fell to the ground," said Awkal's attorney David Singleton. "We always thought we might have a shot. He came through and gave us hope."

Abdul Awkal presently lacks the capacity to form a rational understanding as to the reason the state intends to execute him," Cuyahoga County Judge Stuart Friedman said. "Abdul Awkal may not be executed unless and until he has been restored to competency."

The Ohio Supreme Court on Monday indefinitely postponed the execution of a convicted killer on the heels of a lower court’s ruling last week that he could not be executed because he is mentally incompetent. Read more here.

This is brilliant news, Abdul needs help not execution but I find it slightly disturbing that the high court have still not ruled out a further execution date. To me it sounds like they want the doctors to make him mentally stable so they can execute him
