Default Illinois DOC Halfway house conditions and rules

Hello. Does anyone have an experience with halfway houses in Chicago? Are there certain rules they have to follow, and are they strict? For example, are they allowed to leave the house to visit family or go shopping? Also, how long are they typically supposed to stay there before they can live on their own (assuming they can find their own place)? Any information is appreciated.

Hey there. Okay, so from my dcorrirbce it depends on the parole recommendations, nature of crime, etc. for example some HH in Chicago wont take electronic monitoring. Some wont take DV convictions. Typically theyre run pretty strict thru parole becuz theres a bit of monitoring from ILDOC. It just depends on the requirements. It was a long time ago my brother paroled to a HH and from what Ive learned recently with my husband being locked up is that its a long waiting list and the counselor of the inmate needs to be on it! Sometimes these guys dont have a place to go until the day before theyre supposed to be released thinking theyre gonna be violated and have to stay. Its crazy.

My husband just left the HWH in February after being there for 3 weeks. I can't recall if the Federal HWH have separate facilities from the DOC ones, but if you want to find out about the Federal HWH search my prior posts about it because I wrote some very detailed information. They were fairly restrictive in terms of him leaving. He was only allowed to go to a medical visit, religious for 4 hours/week and look for a job (which he was not going to do during that short time he was there). So other than that, he never got to leave, except once to go on a Target and Portillos run with others in the facility.

Thank you for your reply. I will take a look at your other posts. My guess is that federal halfway houses have different rules. I'd like to know specifically about the ones in Chicago that accept state inmates.

Do you know if they are supposed to stay there for a specific length of time or they can leave as soon as they have a place to parole to?

Typically they can request a site transfer when they have one yes.
