Smile My Oldest Son Is Home

My son, Tyler, has been going round and round with TDCJ for about 10 years now. We have survived prison and three trips to ISF, yesterday he came home. He had hooked up with a lady just a couple years younger than myself who just could not stay off of the dope and for some reason, he loved her more than anything (still does). Anyway, the relationship was destructive and the first two trips to ISF he did deserve, this time was all about timing and it being off. First off, two of my prayers have been answered during this time. 1. He realizes that even though he loves her, he can't save her. He wants to, but while he was locked up she caught a couple of drug charges and was with someone else, so he is done. My hope here, is that he take the time to get his head on straight. 2. I have been praying that he decides that he needs to get himself right first and this is a decision he has finally come too. For me, as his mom, I see the look in his eye and the sound in his voice that tells me that his decisions have come from the heart although the first one is breaking his heart.

Tyler is staying at my father in laws while he pulls it all together and he had been very quiet about his release date, I did not know since I had promised to quit digging in his business so he called as soon as he was home and we went and took him to eat at applebee's which cost an arm and a leg (that's ok, I know he was tired of ramien noodles) and then we went to the store so we could get him new "jewelry" for his eyebrow and lip. It was funny because we bought them for him and he just did not know how to react. As I was paying for them, He just looked at me and said, "Mom, I am so tired of losing all of my stuff and I am tired of being angry with Amie, Thank you for sticking it out with me, you did not have to." That meant everything to me. Although, he is not mine biologically, he is mine by marriage and having been down the same road I know what he was saying. I know the road will be tough for him learning to live a life without Amie and I know that the middle of the night phone calls will begin when he is hurting, but I am so grateful for the man he is and for the will to change in spite of all that he has done and all that he has been through.

Default My Son Is Home/Update

My beautiful son has been home for a little over a month now. In that time he has gotten a good job in the oilfield, stayed away from the destructive ex-girlfriend, and has reconnected with an old girlfriend. Life is good and is going well for him. He has had a couple of stumbling blocks, but he came to his dad and I and we have helped him to get over them. I am so proud of him and like all proud mommas had to tell you guys.

Thank you for posting. It gives us all hope for the future. I know in my heart that eventually Ryan will come home...but that day seems soooo far away.
