Default Virginia State supervised probation indefinitely?

when my son is released from prison he will be placed on "supervised probation indefinitely". Does this mean he cannot leave Virginia even if he has family in another state. If possible how does one get permission for him to leave Virginia to be with his family in another state? Any good explanations appreciated.

If you mean to visit family in another state, it can happen with his PO's (in advance)permission. He'll have to ask his PO and get travel papers that list his info, where he's going (specific address and name), mode of travel, car license plate # (if applicable), who he's travelling with, and how long he's staying. He'll be given a copy to keep with him while he's gone.

If you mean a permenant move, he'll need not only his PO's permission, but permission from the receiving state and a valid address (with family) to move to. He'll need to talk to his PO in advance with either scenerio.

My son is currently on probation in Virginia and has requested a transfer to Illinois, where I live. He has a place to live, family, and a job waiting when he gets here. His PO seems very serious about helping him get this transfer. Is there anything else he needs to do other than request the transfer to his po over the phone? I mean, does he need to submit his request in writing to his PO or anyone else? His grandmother kicked him out of the house today and he will be technically homeless until if or when his transfer is approved. I cannot find any information on the legalities of this subject in the state of Virginia online.
