Default You CAN receive financial aid with a drug conviction!

Greetings to All,

My name is Sam and I was convicted of a drug offense. While in prison, I participated in a drug program. Since I had attended college prior to being released, I decided to go back when I got out. I was told that I would not qualify for aid, but I called the Federal Financial Aid office and they said that as long as your conviction (i.e. from the time you got locked up, meaning if you did 5 yrs in prison you qualify) was 2yrs or older, and you participated in a drug rehab program, you are eligible for financial aid. So, even if you didn't participate in a drug program in prison, just sign up for one while you are out, complete it, and you are ready to go.

I am currently enrolled in a paralegal certificate program here in Houston, and I am using federal financial aid. If anyone is currently a paralegal in the Houston area or in Texas period who has a felony, let me know. I hope I have cleared up any issues on this matter.

Thank you for the info, that makes me feel so much better! Now, I know my sweetie can go to school without us working 3 jobs to pay for it!
