I don't think any facilities in Colorado have video visits.

They are working on getting video visits at all CO DOC facilities via tablets but this has not started yet.

I realize this came out a while back and I know there are no video visits at this time but I have been reading more about this. What are the chances of them totally trying to phase out personal visits? Has anyone heard about this? I was reading about this on the Connectnetwork site.

I don't think they will ever phase out video visits at the medium and minimum facilities. Maybe some day in the future at the maximum security facilities but I really don't see that happening as well. DOC is working towards "reunification" of families and (according to the Executive Director), in person visits are essential to an offender's rehabilitation.

I have to say in the last 4 or 5 years, I have seen some efforts from DOC.

When my son was in El Passo County Jail all they had was video visits. I could never see him in person. Up side was that there was no application process, I just scheduled visits & could go. I could even do video visits from home for a small fee - BUT I'm a mac user & they had no option for video visits on a mac. Big problem for me.

I saw a report on how much $$ it saves only having video visits. It's significant. I'm really worried about the video visits replacing in person visits regardless of what they may say now about family reunification. Money talks. They talk all day about reintegration into the community too, but conditions in our prisons do the exact opposite of preparing these inmates for living in any civilized community so I tend to take their catch phrases with a grain of salt.
