Thumbs up Freddy Bell - MS

I'm not sure this is in the right place as Freddy has not been exonerated as such. I'm sure it will be moved if it is in the wrong place, but the news is more important I think, and I hope it gives hope to others fighting for men and woman on the row. We can win!

Freddy has been declared as mentally retarded and therefore not fit to be executed. His sentence has been changed to life without parole. We expect him to be moved from Mississippi death row any time now. We are not sure where he will be sent, but are hoping for news soon.

It has been a long road, but Freddy is finally safe from the executioner. His sister wishes to thank all who helped us in our campaign to save Freddy. Our fight now is to get his conviction overturned and Freddy home with his family.

We will not give up, but are very, very grateful MS can no longer kill Freddy.

Thank you everyone who supported our campaign, you truly have helped to save a life.

A news article about Freddy:

Much to the disappointment of his victim’s father, a Pittsboro man, who was sentenced to die for murdering a store clerk in Gore Springs, will be given life without parole because he was determined to be mentally retarded.

Freddie's co defendant Anthony Doss was resentenced to life yesterday. He will remain on DR for a short while, but is no longer under threat of death.

Some great news coming out of Mississippi in a year where MS activists were/are expecting large numbers of executions. Lets hope next year we can have the good news with no executions.
