Default Butts County sex offenders file suit over sheriff's 'No trick-or-treat'

Butts County sex offenders file suit over sheriff's 'No trick-or-treat' signs

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. —" Last year, the Butts County Sheriff wanted to make it clear on Halloween who the registered sex offenders were. He did so by putting warning a sign in front of each of the sex offenders' homes.

"My office took precautions and placed signs indicating 'No Trick or Treat' at each registered sex offender’s residence in the County," Sheriff Gary Long said. "This was done to ensure the safety of our children."

But now attorneys representing multiple sex offenders have filed a class-action lawsuit against him and his staff, saying the Sheriff is violating laws he is sworn to uphold."

Default Update:Judge issues ruling favoring sex offenders who sued Butts County

Judge issues ruling favoring sex offenders who sued Butts County sheriff over 'no trick-or-treat' signs

"A federal judge has issued a ruling favoring - in part - three registered sex offenders who sued the Butts County Sheriff, calling the "no trick-or-treat" signs the sheriff placed in their yards an abuse of power.

Last year, Butts County Sheriff Gary Long had deputies place the signs in the yards of the registered sex offenders in the days leading up to Halloween, alerting parents and trick-or-treaters that they should avoid those homes. "

That is a positive & I hope the message spreads to other sheriffs who plan to do similar signs. There was just a story in the New Orleans, Louisiana paper today that said a sheriff plans to do signs in his location. https://www.nola.com/news/crime_poli...6a5ab9945.html

Louisiana Sheriff Smith is running for reelection & early voting in his runoff starts Saturday. I reached out to let his campaign know that there is precedent by the GA Federal judge who blocked it in Butts County. I hope he rethinks the sign plan.

By the way, Sheriff Long in Butts County is up for reelection in 2020. Hope someone else runs & wins.

Whatever happened to just keeping your lights off and people realizing that no trick or treat was available there?

The Butts County Sheriff is working for the right agency, because he's a butt.

I sent the Louisiana story to Vicki Henry at W.A.R. to have her voice the facts. Within an hour she had drafted a great response & emailed it to the reporter as well as all the parish council members. She also posted a response on the article's comment section. It's time to come out of hiding & stand together. Otherwise people will continue to steal away what little rights & freedoms our loved ones have left.

Where's the fun in that ??? (please note the sarcasm)... that would mean that parents would actually have to be responsible for teaching their children and taking care of them.

Vicki Henry also posted it on the Women Against Registry Facebook page. NARSOL is supposed to be getting on it too. It's time people were told, "Excuse me... but NO!!!" when they go after one segment of people.
There was also a story I had overlooked but saw it posted on the WAR Facebook page. It was in New Orleans & a 17 year old was arrested after he targeted someone that he had seen on a SO notification flyer that came in the mail to his house. He saw the guy in a convenience store, followed him & beat the hell out of him. The guy went to the hospital & the kid was arrested. He has been charged as an adult with assault &... a hate crime! Here's a link to the story-

Nobody ever lost an election being tough on sex offenders.

If you listen to their justification, it is to save on tax dollars - this way they allegedly do not have to have cars drive by sex offenders houses to make sure their lights are off...

In other words, they would rather post signs and assume that RSOs who are going to violate their no trick-or-treating rules will leave those signs alone and not send out cars to monitor trick-or-treat. By extension, they are going to save funds and not monitor kids trick-or-treating - not be a presence to prevent people from speeding in denser neighborhoods, not be a presence to help kids should they have any sort of trouble with like stray dogs, not protect property owners from eggs and TP, and just not bother. Much easier to post a sign and pretend that a RSO determined to interact with children is going to just not bother to tear up that sign, blame kids, and do what he or she wants to do.

The logic - but the sheriff standing for re-election sure is getting a bunch of free publicity
