Default Man gets 12 yrs for a cell phone

A Mississippi man being held at a county jail on a misdemeanor charge asked a guard to charge his cellphone. The phone was confiscated, and the man was slapped with a 12-year prison sentence for phone in a correctional facility.

It seems excessive but it's what I tell my boyfriend all the time. You aren't just being sentenced for the one crime you committed. You are being sentenced because you repeatedly break the rules and laws.

This article is rather vague. I want to know more, like......was he newly arrived (this time) at the jail? Was he searched? You know, more details.

I doubt he was searched. I think there are officers that need to be reprimanded also. What if it was a weapon?

The strange thing to me is that he willingly handed it to the guard. The guy has been in and out of jail for 2 decades. He had to know he wasn't supposed to have it. It's very strange.
