Default My cat is dying and I'm falling apart

I am having a horrible week. I got stopped for speeding Saturday ( I have a bit of a lead foot) and found out my registration was expired. But that's not the worst thing ... $400. Fixed that..taxes..emissions..reg fees ..arrgh..then Sunday 1 of my cats started acting sick..my beautiful 2.5 year old orange long hair Max..tuesday am to the emergency vet in tears..today more bad news his kidneys are failing ..enlarged..likely congenital..I just came back from holding him for the last time and my geart is broken. I know hes a cat but it just doesnt matter ..it really hurts. I can't stop the tears. I sat in the vets office and held him for 45 minutes and told him how much I love him. Tomorrow morning I have to call but I can tell he's not getting better. His kidney function did not improve with hydration and the writing is on the wall . I have to let him go ..im so not good with this stuff..I think I'm going to head over to visit him because I need the support. If I can stop crying that is.

Oh my gosh, I'm feeling your post all over the place. I'm extremely attached to my pets. They are my children (I don't care about the looks I get when I say that). I lost my dog of 12 years and I swear the moment she took her last breath I felt a physical pain in my chest that broke me. I wailed over her.

Your kitty is so young and that makes it even harder to wrap your head around. Take all the time you need to say goodbye and grieve.

I am so so so sorry you are going through this! Losing a loved one is never easy be it human or furry. Take all the time you need to grieve and deal with the loss if it comes to that.

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry. Having a sick animal isn't easy. We live love them like they are out our children. I take care of my husband's two cars who he loves more then most humans. He asked about them almost every time we talk lol. Crazy cat man lol. I hope your Mac gets better. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Aww kitty. I’m so sorry. Sometimes all you can do is show them they are loved. Give him kisses from all of us!

Ah, clj, I'm so sorry....I spent years and years in assorted animal businesses, so I've lost dolphins, birds, horses, dogs, cats, plus all the kids' pets....and it sucks every single time. No use trying to get used to it, it just keeps sucking.

Just know how to do it right for the animal...when you get their deaths right, it gives some peace. That's always been the saving grace for me, getting it right.

Sorry to hear about furbaby...and so young...I have lost more than one to kidney issues, but they were often older (at least 12-15 years old).

As others noted, there is no getting used to it. I just went through it again late last year when a foster-to-adopt passed away. My oldest is really showing signs of separation anxiety...

Clj...i took three days bereavement leave when my (fur)daughter died. i am not ashamed.
It i s a hurt and sadness like no other. They love 100% unconditionally and have most often than not, made us laugh more than anything else.

Not only do we miss the fuzzy faces, we miss the joy they brought us.

I am so very sorry for your difficult, horrible, no good very bad decision you are deciding to make. Bless your heart with all the grace and courage that can be given.

Stop saying "it's just a cat"... I feel for you and I'm sending you a huge hug across the atlantic
I had to put my dog down and she died in my arms, cried for 24 hours straight and then some...

Max is at peace .. I wanted to go see my guy but as my luck goes they are on lockdown for the first time since last June. I'm sure my other cats are feeling annoyed with me at how many times I've grabbed them and wept while holding them .. Max was a beautiful boy. I called him my handsome lion. I miss him so much already. I generally feel like I'm a strong woman .but I'm feeling pretty fragile. I also have to figure out how to pay a large vet bill.. he has 29 days left. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel but forgot that a lot can happen in a very short time. If I sound like I'm all over the place that's because that's how my head is right now. Thanks everyone for your kind words they are appreciated .

The vet bill can get paid over time....the prison sentence will end....eventually it will all come right and you can relax again with your fur babies and your human. It's just that (so difficult) matter of holding on 'til then. You can!

I'm so sorry for your loss, its like losing a family member that you choose to have in your family. I'm typing this while crying as I will undoubtedly be in your shoes one day I wish I could say it gets better but honestly I don't think it ever does.

I'm SO sorry for your loss, and it is a huge loss indeed. Those of us who have pets know they become family, and the hurt goes so deep when they pass. My daughter once told me, "Wow, Mom, you cried more when John Brown,(the dog) died than when your grandmother died." I answered, "The dog treated me better." Yep, that's how it goes. Unconditional love.
