Default How long does the BOP usually keep someone in a transfer center?

Someone I know just arrived at the federal transfer center (FTC) in Oklahoma City. How long is someone normally kept at this transfer center? What is it like there? Do prisoners being transferred by the BOP know what prison they are being transferred to or does the BOP just surprise them and tell the prisoners that they're at their new home once they arrive there?

Thank you for any help you can give to me.

Sometimes they know where they are going but it is about 50/50 if you really go there. Also with the storms in the Northeast, everyone is being delayed transfer. My husband has been struck on transfer status in PA for two weeks now. He spent a week in OKC.

My son was in transfer at FTC Oklahoma for 32 days, You can write to him there, some can call. From what I understand there is no set time, transfer was the hardest for me, waiting, wondering, It will be better when he gets to his permanent place, and then you two can get into a routine, as suggested by another member on this site, I sent him word search puzzles printed off the computer and he appreciated them a lot.

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the federal forums. If OKC is his first bop prison, it will probably take awhile for him to be moved since the designation office will have to decide where he will serve his time. I was there for 6 weeks, but some others were moved the next day. Only the bop knows how long he will be there, and some counselors will tell him where he is headed, but some others won't.

OKC had the best conditions of all the temporary prisons I passed through. We were out of the cells for most of the day, had TV access and a rotating book cart. No commissary access unless he stays there long enough to earn money as an orderly since he can't use the money in his inmate account (except possibly for phone calls since the phone system has changed since I was there).

My LO has had me checking for a guy that was supposed to be transferred in OKC almost 3 weeks ago. He's still sitting in OKC according to the inmate locator. He was going out east somewhere so I'm assuming that is the issue.
