The inmates have a procedure they must follow to file complaints within the prison.
I would suggest that unless you have solid proof that you let the inmate follow the procedures that he's supposed to internally. If you contact the DOC on heresy it could potentially impact him negatively or they could start issuing him tickets for petty stuff just to mess with him.
The system isn't perfect, so I would just go about it carefully so your inmate doesn't suffer.

If you have proof then maybe start by calling the warden and if you don't get anywhere there you can contact the DOC.

thank you for responding. i read what you said about the 2 inmates at redgranite talking about the lockdown and then going to the hole. it's so ironic because my loved one hinted at something but did not outright say what happened. he said they tried to punish him for not having money on the books to take the pictures we took on our last visit. the next sentence he wrote said send him inmate mistreatment administrative code. what i wanted to ask you, if he tries to complain, won't they start messing with him with the bogus tickets etc. thank you for your input and thanks for responding.

Default Medical mistreatment

Is it the same number if someone is not getting the medical treatment that they need?

This from an inmate at the New Lisbon Correctional Institution in Wisconsin.

"One of the men I eat with had a compound fracture. So here he was, walking around on crutches for at least a week with a bone sticking out. They finally sent him to Madison."

Madison is where the hospital he was sent to is located.

Abuse is rampant in Wisconsin prisons.

A deaf inmate at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution was threatened with a conduct report because he failed to be present for count. He could not hear the count bell. He asked that a flashing light be used for his room but it was denied. The list of abuses deaf inmates in Wisconsin suffer is not only long but outrageous in the kinds of things being done to them.

Theresa--
If someone is not getting the medical treatment they need, have them go to the Social Services Unit and fill out a form authorizing you (or someone they trust) access to their records, specifically indicating medical and psych records. They, once that's completed, they will send that to you, you will sign it and send it back. Once you've been granted access, call their medical unit, social services unit and psychiatry unit to find out what care they are receiving (and how much, how often). WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN, INCLUDING THE DOCTOR/INDIVIDUAL YOU SPOKE WITH. Confirm with your loved one what you've learned and if it's accurate. Then raise hell. Contact the ACLU, contact an attorney, contact the media. Continue to contact the Health Services Unit until they make corrective actions, and write a letter to the warden documenting your requests so that the warden cannot later say he/she was not informed. I hope this helps.

Start within by asking to see the Captain of Security so you can explain your concerns. If that doesn't help, or the abuse is really bad, then you need to call your Senator. They HATE it when a Senator calls because they want answers...and FAST!

Hope this helps new people as this was a very old question to answer.
