Default Anyone else having an issue of prisons returning holiday cards?

MSP is returning many of the Christmas cards my husband had received from family. He did not get any of mine. The last two they said it was because it was three folded. I asked the mailroom if cards were allowed back at the beginning. They told me they were. No problem. Why didn't they tell me the rules? Instead of returning mail and charging his account!!

That really sucks! No, as far as I know, all my cards got there. Frankie's card to me was returned to him for insufficent postage...he stuffed it full of stuff for me. Some prisons are stricter than others when it comes to the mail room.

Oh wow, I have never heard the 3-fold rule before! I try not to send anything too fancy during the holidays, even though I would like to. I know the mail room is really busy and they are more likely to turn things away when they have so much mail to check. This year I just went to the Dollar General and bought plain cards, no glitter or anything... I found some with decent messages and just wrote my own personal lovey dovey stuff on them.

I'm sorry your guy didn't get his cards! That is really frustrating, especially since you called before-hand and everything.

I am sorry girl! I sent 3 folded ones and they got there. Sadly some have much stricter rules than others! I agree with the above poster. Dollar General has some nice ones that are nothing fancy, but they are still cards for your man! Plus they have a 2/$1 section and that helps if you are anything like me and send A LOT to your man lol. I have 16 already for Valentine's Day! I am sending a few a week until the official day! It helps when they enjoy the corny ones too

My cousin got all of his cards returned, b/c the jail doesn't allow cards anymore due to contraband being found in and on the cards! Luckily he knew about them, and thanked us with a card. Still, cmon now, it's Christmas!

I have cards sitting on my table that I was going to send them but now I'm concerned they are not going to let him get them. They have sent so much stuff back that now I've noticed that I'm not writing as much. This prison is so strict. And no one that works there seems to know all the details on the rules. I feel so bummed out for my husband.

Seriously?? Oh my goodness. That is sad. It doesn't really surprise me, I guess. I saw a tv show where the C.O.'s of a busy mail room showed how people sneak contraband in the mail. It blew my mind! I guess at facilities where this is a problem, it makes sense not to allow the cards at all. But it stinks for everyone else.

That sucks I know in the beg. The county jail told me just the normal basic cards.. so I pretty much have stuck to that since to play safe :-/

Some came back and there are others that I'm still waiting on. I'm not sure if I will get them back or not. Thing is they said cards were no problem. Not only have I spent money on the cards and the stamps. But when they do return it, they charge his account to send them back. So, really I'm paying for that yet again. I could see if it was something that could be considered contraband, but three fold cards is over the top, in my opinion.

EVERYTHING I sent my man went through, much of which would have been returned had he been in a prison facility. (he is at firecamp).

Yeah, the first time I wrote him, they returned my letter b/c I had used white out. It was a "foreign substance that could be contraband". I was like, okay, I guess I could see where someone might try to do something like that, but OBVIOUSLY it's white out! I guess some people are just much more craftier than I could ever imagine!
