Does anyone know if vspw is on lockdown. I have not heard from my girlfriend since last Friday . She usually calls me every day . Or if something happened there. Would appreciate it, getting worried.

They are locked down as of this afternoon around 1pm at least. I believe it started Thursday or Friday. I do not know exactly why they're locked down for so long, but do know they had power outages this week because PG&E was testing. No idea when it will be lifted.

i have not heard from my honey since last thursday and she normally calls daily as well...
she fianlly sent me a letter explaining that the whole institution is on lockdown for 3 weeks!!!
as of (1/20/12)
due to a threatening letter toward the guards and staff there...
no calls!
no dayroom activities!
no recreational activities!
highly controlled enviroment!
visiting is ok!
GOD HELP THEM ALL!!!!!!

Thanks for the answer sunofman. I was wondering what in the world was going on. I know my honey is really stressed then. That is a very very long lockdown. I appreciate the info. I tried to call but did not know the proper number or anything . I have not received a letter yet from her so that also had me worried , although i am sure i will get one soon. So then this started on the 20th and should end around the 10th of this month.

the threat was with syringes with the aids virus! so they have to search the whole institution. yes, its serious and lately they have been understaffed and so they are trying to control the situation. It is 'highly volatile' there as you well know. i tell my honey to focus on her breathing to calm her down...focus-breath slowly which will empty your mind of useless worries! she is waiting for her release papers to get the hell out of there! (7 years of dead time!) peace!

The ongoing lockdown and locker searches will probably be going on for at least another week.
I have heard rumors that the lockdown will last for 3 weeks, but not that it will continue on for
another additional three weeks. Still, we’re really upset about all of this, and our Chair is
looking into it –and it WILL be discussed at our meeting this coming Friday.
Meanwhile, parole dates should not be effected.

Thanks for the Information everyone. I got a letter from my girl a d she even sent me a copy of the lockdown reason. She is good about that . My girl is supposed to be getting out very soon and is waiting on some paperwork to find out . Meanwhile we're just wondering when she will get out and or when or where she will be moved to dir to the fact they are closing that facility down and opening it up to men in September . Her mom is in the hospital and she can't see her and is supposed to be getting transferred down south. So it feels like an overall merry go round . Seems like everything is going so slow . Anyways only 6 months left for her but hoping she should get out sooner or moved . Is all very confusing .

vspw is currently on lock down since the 20th of january. Inmates are told they might be locked down for up to 30 days. Someone threaten staff with syringe full of aids.

Any word on the status of the lockdown that was 'supposed to have ended the 13th'? My bff called a few weeks ago (after the 30th) but haven't heard from her since. Just wondering.

I visited today and was told by the guards that the lockdown was fully lifted (on all yards) this morning.

I AM GOING CRAZY WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM MY DAUGHTER. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING THEY TOLD ME TO DO AND HAVE BEEN CONSTANTLY MISLED FROM THE PEOPLE IN THE MAIL ROOM. FIRST THEY SAID THEY WERE A COUPLE WEEKS BEHIND THEN IF I MAILED A REGISTERED LETTER IT WOULD GO THROUGH AND ON FRIDAY I WAS TOLD SHE GOT THE FIRST REGISTERED LETTER , STILL NO CALL, I CALLED AGAIN ON MONDAY AND THEY SAID SHE WOULD GET THE LETTER THAT AFTERNOON, HERE IT IS TUES. AND STILL NO CALL SO WHEN I CALLED THE MAILROOM AGAIN TODAY THEY TOLD ME SHE HAD RECEIVED HER MAIL BUT WOULD HAVE TO PUT IN A REQUEST FOR PHONE PRIVELDGES AND WAIT HER TURN. Okay so at the risk of irritating you more than I know you already are let me ask you a few things. Is she still in recieving? When they are in recieving you never know how screwed up things can get. Is there any chance that she is is AD/SEG for a disciplinary reason? Have you set up an account with GTL (Global Tel Link)? They handle all the phone services for the California Department of Corrections. I had had to call and set up an account that enabled my friend to call on my cell phone. But when I switched my cell phone service and had no contract any longer I had to set up another account that allowed her to call my house phone. You have to have an account set up with them before her call will go thru to any number. It is stupid and a hassel but the people at GTL are generally very nice and helpful. Let me know if you need the info for GTL I just finished dealing with them to set up my other account. Hope you hear from her soon.

thank you so much for answering my blog, no she isn't in receiving anymore, she was shipped from receiving to vspw a couple weeks ago, she is in a/b a3 130L. she isn't on any disciplinary restristions, I have set up a account through global tel and con call home and set it up 2/4/12 while she was still in receiving. I sent her the number the next day and according to the lettlers I have gotten she still hasn't got the number, I keep calling the mail room because I sent the last two letters registered like they told me too and they said she has gotten them but now they are saying she has to put in a request for phone privledges which they never mentioned before. I got a letter from her thanking me for the care package I sent her, but she still keeps asking for the phone number. I called global tell and I have $40. credit on it and I signed up for a year for 300 minutes a month with cons call home. thanks again for answering my blog ( I guess that's what this is called.) do you have someone in vspw now?

Oh wow!!! Well welcome to the world of Valley StatePrison for Women. They are very SPECIAL sometimes!!! Yes I do have someone there now.. My best friend has been there for awhile. Me personally, I have never really had any problems but you are not the first person I have heard about their love one not recieving their mail. I have had a letter here or there over the years that she hasn't gotten but not her just flat out not getting it at all. My friend is on C yard. I won't be talking to her til next week sometime but I can ask her what her take on the whole situation is and see if she has any ideas because honestly I can not think of any other valid reason she won't be getting you mail. I will keep my fingers crossed that the situation gets fixed and you are able to talk to your daughter. As a mother I couldn't imagine not even being able to speak to my child.

Yes, I have not heard from my gf since Monday and she calls me daily also. Guessing they are on lockdown again. My girl is in b yard. Does anyone else now how long this lockdown is for.

I just left (paroled) from CCWF which is across the street and it's very easy for us to know what's going on between the two prisons. VSPW has been on lockdown for race wars between Blacks & Mexicans also because of short staff. Fights break out and they've laid off so much staff they don't have the man power to allow them to "Program" (work, school or yard) because they don't have enough staff to keep watch. CCWF didn't have as many race problems (if any) but there was a lot of lock down due to short staffing. They were cutting back the yard hours and if your loved one is on A yard (reception) they're REALLY being reduced in free time. This has the potential to get worse as the begin to merge a Northerner's prison (VSPW) with a Southerner's prison (CCWF).

The good news is when I paroled a few weeks ago one of the C.O.'s said that the state is currently trying to put a freeze on staff layoffs so the inmates do not continue to grow frustrated. The women could have so much more if they could organize like the men do but women are catty so you know how that goes.
