Hi gals and guys, I have another story. My son was transferred to the Leavenworth Medium facility .... you all might remember because of the evacuation of the Beaumont FCI. Well, I live in San Antonio so I took off two days of work and flew up to Kansas City last Friday so I could see my son all day Saturday and Sunday!!! I was soooooo excited and so was he. First they denied my fiance visitation rights since he did not know my son before incarceration (Beaumont allowed it!) and then it took hours to get into the lobby of the darn place. They had people waiting outside in 20 degree weather .... it was horrible. I finally got in about 11 am and was helped about 1230 pm and was soooo worried that i might not get to see my son!! I got through the metal detecter but low and behold they brought out the drug scanner to scan me!! They scanned my hands and they swiped each pant leg once. I came out positive!!! I was STUNNED to say the least!! I had not been around it nor do I use anything. Then they said they would do another one. The guard did change his gloves and clean the little machine out and he had to have someone else watching him to make sure he followed procedures!! I asked the lady guard/clerk person if it could have gotten on me when I picked up all of the coats that had been knocked off the hooks by some kids .... she said she didnt know but I was not allowed to wash my hands. I dont know a lot about this drug thing but my son filled me in on alot of stories about mis-readings. I was humiliated and horrified that I could not go in and see my son. I also had to wait 48 hours and then of course there was no visitation on Monday!!! I spend alot of money and time to go see him for this!!!! I was told by the officer that was to escort me out into the 20 degree weather (and my fiance had the car!) that the residue could have come from money, the car rental, the hotel room, etc!!!! I also use a progesterone cream ... does anyone that that could have caused it????? I've tried to call the prison over and over to find out what I was tested positive for but the person I need to talk to never answers the phone. I am still sooooo upset by the whole thing and really paranoid about this now. I was never tested positive while he was in Beaumont but they also stopped for awhile because of so many false readings!! I WANT THIS OFF OF MY RECORD!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO APPEAL IT?? They paper that they gave me says you can appeal but it's just my word against the machine!!! If this happens again it would be 30 days and then if it happens again I think it's something like 3 or 6 months. I would be devastated!!!! Has anyone else visited Leavenworth and the same thing happened??? I am sooooooooooo confused ... I never want to have to go through this again ... it is soooooooooo far up there!!!

Post You can downloan the Ion Drug Test Information and rules and regulations

Hello Everyone:

I will continue to try and understand and fight for my appeal for the recent positive reading that I received from FCI Memphis. I found this information and printed this out for my own benefit, it was quite useful when I applied for my appeal. It give you all the required information that a CO must proform when a positive is given, also advises you as the rights of each vistor. Did you know that even though you may read a positive, you may have the ability to gain entry by the warden, a strip search, a non contact visit etc..please go to : http://www.bop.gov/DataSource/execute/dsPolicyLoc
(when you click on this, please then click on :Inmate and Custody Management5000 SeriesBrowse Series) This is the 5000 series, that is where the info is!

scroll down to: 5520.01Ion Spectrometry Device Program02/24/2005
and click on it, you will then have the polices given in a word format, you can not paste and copy, put you can print it, you can also mail a copy to anyone of your loved one for there knowledge, I did send one to Maurice and he made copies for alot of immates that have had problems.
They did not follow procedures with my positive reading and I am not resting until I can see Mauirce again. I never went on my December 8th trip and although it was paid for, I just threw over 500.00 out the window.
I would appreciate anyone's feedback on this..Thanks Shay

My suggestion is to carry Clorox wipes in your car. Use them before entering the prison!

This really frustrates me when I read these stories about good, honest people who now have the whole drug question marks next to their names because of the stupid machines, and still nothing is being done about them. Pretty soon you all will have to wear space suits to see your loved ones. It's infuriating.

All I can say to those that have had this happen is do what you can to correct the error; write whomever you have to write to, call, e-mail, etc. Your senators and congresspeople are a really good place to start.

Is Con-Tact News still being printed? I haven't received one in over six months now and I thought I'd read some where that it was no longer being printed. What is the correct info? If there are new issues, I'd sure like to receive mine....

Hi, I just came back from my first visit to Oakdale, La. It was really stress full because i had to drive 14 hrs... with my 2 kids and my mother-inlaw. well... I got there and there was a LOT of people being rejected because of this machine. I was wearing latex gloves from my hotel room all the way to the waiting area. Somebody said that we need to wash our hands with antibacterial soap. I have one of those that u dont need to rinse on my handbag. So I run back to my car to get it and IT WORK!! ... just go and use the germinex right before they scan your hands. I dont think the gloves made a difference, but the soap is... and another lady told me that they use some Wipes from Oil of Oley ... for the face... well that I dont know, but I know that the soap does work.... good luck.!!

I've been using that purell instant hand sanitizer, I don't know if it works, as I haven't been tested yet, but always try to use it to be on the safe side!

I used Anti-Bacterial Deep Cleaning and I was still tested positive, but as I have written, they did not conduct the test correctly, and this is why I received a false positive twice, not once but twice on the same day after I went and washed my hands for the second testing, bottom line, the machine su@ks ..and it has placed a burden on my life with Maurice, but I am continuing to fight for what is right and I know that I never have been in contact wit Cocaine and Opium, which is what they said I came back with..so the saga continues..but Thank you for that information, I will go out and buy this product so I can see if it works when I do ever get another chance to see my heart..Hugs Shay

I have never tested positive, but when they searched my car, I had a buck knife under the seat(It was in my purse, but I took it out before going in the prison, didn't know we were going to be searched!). I know the guard found it, it was laying on top of the console under the seat, but he didn't say anything.

Another time, I was taking my kids to see him, and the one has a pin in his hip. I called beforehand and they told me to have a doctors note, because he was 16, "HE WOULD BE STRIP-SEARCHED" if he set off the detector. This is in PA. I don't know about other prisons, but that is what they told me here. I had his note, and they shut off the scanner, had him come through, and hand scanned him. Then they turned the scanner back on and his brother and I went through.

I have been tested numerous times in a Pennsylvania Federal Prison. I don't use any drugs, prescription or otherwise, but I tested positive ONE time, however, when they did it again it came up negative and I was allowed in. There are a TON of false positives on these machines. Even though the COs will deny it--if you use lotion, perfume, etc. before you take this test there is a possibility you will get a positive hit. Especially if you use Bath & Body (chain store) lotions. I also saw a girl test positive for some substance (they wouldn't tell her what) and she had drove 4 hours and they wouldn't let her in. I have a friend that works in a state prison and they used to do the drug scanner on employees as well as visitors. Well, one day the Superintendent of the prison came up positive for drugs on a random scan. (If an employee comes up positive, they take you for a urine test immediately). Of course, by policy, he was taken for a urine test (imagine how embarrassing!!!), which came up negative. The state facility now does not use the drug scanner on employees anymore! These machines are inaccurate and unreliable and devastates a lot of people who innocently go to visit a loved one in prison only to be turned away by a machine that lies. I understand that they are trying to stop the contraband that can come in, but this is just ridiculous.

I can understand why they are trying to reduce the contraband, but for the life of me I can not understand how they can scan your hands and believe they can tell you have contraband on you! Sounds like these machines need a lot of work. And I bet there is one warden who would agree with me! lol

I swear by dreft soap for my clothes, I vory soap for my body and purell sanitizer. knock on wood I have been through every time since Friday Dec 23. I was turned a way for 2 false positives and lost visits for 30 miserable disgusting days. We are back and stronger than ever though! Good Luck ladies. Oh, watch who you let use your washers and dryers too! watch when you pump gas even the night before touching the steering wheel. be aware of your surroundings. Certain things you take, drink( anything with a dietary suppliment!) if you need a pick me up drink coffee! Diet pills, certain head ache medication, certain cough and cold syrup evn children. and definately lotions, body washes and perfumes stay the heck away from!

Lightbulb Ion Scanner

A sample medium is used to sample areas most likely contaminated like hands and common things that hands normally come into contact with. Yes the machines often give false positives and isn't recognized until the operator gets several alarms for the same substance. Then he/she realizes that the machine must be malfunctioning and is in need of general maintenance. The machines are supposed to be calibrated at the begining of each shift, recieve weekly cleanings, and monthly cleanings which are more in depth than weekly cleanings. Sometimes from high use or because of samples taken from very dirty hands and other items, the machine is in need of a cleaning earlier than normal. After it is noticed that the machine is alarming a lot, it gets extra maintenance. The squeeky wheel gets the grease! The operator's gloves and the sample medium are supposed to be changed after alarm situation is dealt with so as to not contaminate other tests.

I went to visit my baby this weekend and they got a new ion scanner. They said it is the one being used at the airports. Anyways...I didnt see one person get a positive the whole 3 days I was there. It looks different also...it looks much like the wand they use to wand you after u go off in the metal detector and it has a white strip that comes out of it. It also has no vaccuum on it. Hope this machine turns out to be better!

Question Did anyone save the policy on Ion Spectrometry? It's gone!

I was just wondering if anyone saved the policy on Ion Spectrometry Device Program on their computer or if you have it and can scan it for uploading? Thanks

I just wanted to share a experience from FCI Oakdale, LA. I flew in from VA and my father flew in from NY. We both spend a lot of money to see my husband. This was our first time to this facility and have only been able to see him a total of 2 days since he left (he was in separation because he was being moved). We were really excited that we could finally see him three days in a row. I am 8 1/2 months pregnate and this would be my last time to see him before the baby. My husband had called me and told me how bad the machine was and to get antibacterial wipes. My father, my 5 year old son and I all wiped down and touched nothing. My father and I both tested positive. We were devistated. They couldn't even tell us what we tested for. We used fresh and clean wipes. I know it had to be the wipes. They did let me come back on Monday but my father had to catch his flight and didn't get to see my husband. It was so hard to be turned away, especially when you come so far. On Monday I only used soap and water, I scrubed my hands with a nail brush. After that I put on cotton gloves, the kind that you use after you apply lotion. I kept a gallon of water and a unopened roll of papertowels to wash from the car. I also cleaned my license and bought a new pen then wrapped them both in plastic. Its so sad that we have to use extreme measures because of these machines giving false reports. I was also under the impression that these tests should be random. Every person got tested and 6 were turned away. Is there anything we can do about this? I'm ready to do what I can!

I Am Desperate To Get Some Info On This.my Boyfriend Is In Fci Manchester Ky.he Has Been There For Two Years I Am His Only Visitor.they Just Started This Testing In November.i See Him Every 2 Or 3 Weeks.i Picked Up On The Pattern They Have On The Random Testing And Avoided It Because I Have Seen So Many People Turned Away That There Is No Way They Should Have Been.i Do Not Do Drugs Nor Do I Come In Contact W/ People Who Do.i Do Not Pump Gas Nor Do I Touch $$ The Morning I Go There To See Him.i Wipe My Hands,id,and Car Down W/ Alcohol Pads.i Even Bring My Own Pen To Fill Out The Form And Do Not Touch The Door When I Enter.i Got Tested This Sunday And Came Up Postive.i Knew There Was No Way It Could Be Right.the Staff Knows Me By Now And I Am Always Respectful.i Have Been A Corectional Officer In The Past And Have Also Worked In Law Enforcement.i Feel As Though This Is Against My Constitutional Rights.they Are Saying That I Have Came In Contact W/ An Illegal Substance.they Said That Is Does Not Test For Perscription Drugs??? Then They Said They Could Not Tell Me What I Tested Positive For...when The Officer Gave Me The Form To Appeal It States Clearlt That If I Want To Appeal And Include A Doctor's Verfication Of Perscription Drugs To Explain A Postive Then I Can Put This In The Appeal.if They Do Not Test For Perscription Drugs Why Is This On There? My Dad Says He Thinks It Was His Morphen Patch He Wheres That He Could Have Got It On Me..and My Mom Has Cancer So She Is On A Large Amount Of Different Drugs.i Need Help He Has 6 More Years And Visitation Is What Holds Us Together.i Have Been So Ill To Think That I Can Be Turned Away Again No Matter What I Do Or Do Not Do.
