Default Panel discussion at Univ of Michigan: "Rightsizing Michigan's Prison Population"

EVENT: The Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy will hold a panel discussion on “Rightsizing Michigan’s Prison Population: Policy-driven expansion & reduction in the era of mass incarceration.” (Free and open to the public.)

DATE: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., March 16

PLACE:
The event is being sponsored by the Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy (CLOSUP) at the Ford School of Public Policy, University of Michigan, and will be held at the Annenberg Auditorium, 1120 Weill Hall, 735 South State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-3091.

The size of the prison population in Michigan is currently undergoing a fairly dramatic contraction after years of sustained growth. The discussion at the symposium will center on the policy decisions that led to the build-up of the State’s prison population, the reasons for the current contraction, and policies designed to help returning prisoners reintegrate into society.

The panel will feature the current director of the Michigan Department of Corrections, Patricia Caruso, as well as a former Director, Robert Brown (1984-1991). It will be moderated by Dennis Schrantz, the Deputy Director of Planning and Community Development Administration.
