Unhappy The Right Choices

How do you get a 17 year old boy to slow down with the street life and make good decisions? He was already shot at his own sweet 16 how do i just get him to realize there's more to life? Because I feel like before he's 21, he'll be in prison or dead. Please just give some options. Thanks

The only thing you can do as a parent is be an example to your children and instill in them good, healthy morals and the knowledge of right and wrong.

If you have accomplished the above, there is nothing more you can do to keep your child from living a life in the streets and getting into trouble. They have to find their own way, in there own time.

Peace~

Perhaps you should arrange a visit with him to a prison to talk with a lifer. Sometimes a big fat dose of reality is the best. Have him talk to someone that will never own anything but a fan and a tv. If he is lucky. We did this with my Exs son and he now is enrolled in college doing good. His dad was a repeat offender and wanted different for his son. Just my opinion. It worked for him. I took him to the visit and the man genuinely scared the crap out of his son. He broke the reality of the situation down in a way that got through to him and for that I am forever grateful to that man. Even though he is my Exs son I still love him and don't want him making a choice that would alter his life forever. I hope this helps and opens your options up a bit...it was a seriously scared straight moment ill never forget...

I don't know if your child is in trouble or not but in most states these days the court system has something called 'drug court'. It is a very intense program with lots of counselors, life coaches and many other opportunities to get minors on the right track. Let me tell ya, I have seen some really troubled children turn their lifes around with this program and end up furthering their education for a brighter future, gain respect for themself, other people, and property but it is a strict policy program so not all make it.
