Default Email Communication availability

Hi I see that some people have posted about being able to email their loved one. I wish I had this convenience. I'm curious to know how that works and which states have access. Is this option available in County or does the person have to be sentenced?

Not a state option. Only Federal inmates can use e mail.

Ok. I was wondering because on the website that I use to send him money it is shown as an option available but doesn't come up for his account. I thought it might be because he hasn't been sentenced.

I voted yes, but it's not email in the traditional sense. I can send an email to his unit via Jpay and they will print it out for him. He can't email me back, he has to write back the old fashioned way. Many state systems allow that now but I'm not sure about county.

yeah, ohio allows e-mails. well that's what i consider it, like lorraine had said - i can e-mail it, they print it out, and then he responds using pen and paper, then they scan it onto the computer and send it back to my e-mail. it's much quicker than snail mail - if i send him an e-mail one day i'll either get a response the next day or the following day. they get a free reply with every e-mail you sent (only one page though) so it's an alright option if you just want to send a quick message or if you need to find something out fast! or also if you're always on the go - im very busy with school, so its nice to be able to let him know im thinking of him.

They have the JPay thing in many of the State facilities in Indiana too. From what I can gather how it works can vary from facility to facility. At RCF where my friend is they have little kiosks where they can read the "emails" and reply back electronically. Nothing gets printed or scanned.

Momstime and SimpleHedgehog it's great to hear that this is available in State also. I would think it would make life for CO's easier. We can't put contraband in an email! Hopefully this will make it's way to NJ soon. I hope.

I am able to send my guy messages through Jpay. I like it because it takes a while for my handwritten letters to get there, so in the meantime I can tell him I love him quickly. He gets the email the very next day, they print it out and hand it to him. He is in the hole so we don't get to talk on the phone much, so I like to remind him that I am always thinking of him.

you can make them as long as you want. its one "stamp" per page, but you can fit a LOT on one page - you can also e-mail pictures as well! their responses have to be short on the other hand - they just get one page to write on per e-mail. even if your e-mail is 10 pages! lol.

My man is in State Prison in Ohio, I use J-pay ti send him e-mails. He receives a blank sheet of paper with my e-mail. He writes back and they scan it and send it back to me. we can write everyday. It is way quicker than regular mail. His biggest complaint is that he always wants to write more than he can fit on one page but he loves that we can stay in touch this way.

I put no...although I do use jpay (thank goodness for jpay), but I don't consider it email unless he can write me back...and he can't, so...

Not quite correct. I do know that some prisons in Washington State allow email through J-Pay.

I voted yes. I use jpay to keep in touch with my brother and friend. They love to write and it saves us stamps and envelopes and "meeting the mailman" where as we can write like 3 times out the week. I love it. It's quick and fast.. the only thing my brother complains of also is not having enough space to write back lol.

They have Jpay in Texas too. if you send the mail before 12pm where they are he will receive the same night well its like this for my husband anyway. Jpay is working on having the 2 ways email in most facilities.

Too bad jpay doesn't service his facility. His uses accesscorrections. It's shown as an option but it's not available for him. I wonder if this is because he hasn't been sentenced. Is this jpay option available in county?
